arkonaut commented on Ignoring the amount customers confirm is no security bug according to PayPal   seclists.org/bugtraq/2014... · Posted by u/david_b

This story is going to need more detail because one of the biggest complaints merchants have is how PayPal will pretty much always side with the customer.
arkonaut · 11 years ago
Agree here - That has always been one of the thorns in accepting PayPal on any decent scale. At least with chargebacks, you can fight them and win about 50% of the time with the right docs. PayPal barely entertains dialogue.

And it is also the network effect in finding those folks, need someone to make a weird prop or some special effect or certain sound. Someone knows somebody who knows somebody. Until the that knowledge is disassociated with the human social network a place still has value. BTW, linkedin is not that disintermediary.

I have been to detroit, I wanted to live the batman detroit dream. Better to move to Utah, Arizona or New Mexico. High taxes, corruption. The place needs the peace corps.

arkonaut · 11 years ago
Agreed. It's the technical knowledge and the institutional web that, until something causes it to weaken, only gets stronger and stronger each year. I lived in NYC and they said these same things for about three years... And now they've stopped saying it for some reason.

While I never noticed it pointing A->Z, I did always recognize it as a smile. I guess it depends on your perspective.
arkonaut · 12 years ago
Don't know how you'd quantify this, but I imagine people have a subliminal response to the smile whether they know they see it or not. Like pleasant chord construction in music. I've also heard it's the reason watches in magazines are always set to a time around 10:10 or 2:50 to make it seem like a smiling face.

I just want to note that passwords are not the only sensitive information that go through a server you are communicating with. Even if there were no passwords, I would consider Heartbleed just as bad.
arkonaut · 12 years ago
Agreed. Really wish this was more of the story.

Are you really getting $0.10 installs via Facebook Mobile ads? If so you're performing better than any FB ad account I've seen in the last 6 months (and I've seen a lot). Even gaming doesn't perform close to this well.

If this is actually true you should be doing affiliate installs which routinely pay out $1 with no (or high) caps. You could literally make tens of thousands of dollars daily.

arkonaut · 12 years ago
Where can you find affiliate arbitragers like this? Totally get that he/she should be doing this, but how do you find the people doing this effectively? I'm all for paying when someone has figured this out, because the installs I get often make me want to give up trying. Thanks!

That should read, "One of the most influential mathematical statisticians in history..."

He also invented the "Wald test".

arkonaut · 12 years ago
Agreed that this should get quite a bit more elaboration to put it in perspective.

I was interested to see the differences between this and Mattermark's top 8. The only two in common are Kimono and The Dating Ring.

Mattermark Top 8:

Kimono Labs, Taplytics, CodeCombat, Airpair, Beacon, Ambition, The Dating Ring, Style Lend

TechCrunch Top 8:

wit.ai, The Dating Ring, PushBullet, AirHelp, Weave, Boostable, Kimono Labs, BatteryOS

Mattermark and their rankings are going to be looked back on as just as useless as a professional blogger. There are hints of positives for you to take away (and make wide sweeping bets across companies with - if you're an investor), but the outliers end up being outliers in a number of ways. Pretty much all the ways that make prognostication like this precisely pointless.

Due to scale, it's really nice being able to get the "viral loop" from people backing your project on KS and other people on KS seeing that.
arkonaut · 12 years ago
Who has ever gotten that? Zach Braff and Veronica Mars brought their own audiences.. Similar stories for friends that have done KS. Something like Coin however was able to implement a pretty viral referral system that could get your card for free when you get others to buy by hosting it themselves and customizing that part of the flow. That's something I don't think you could do on KS and actually has a viral loop.
arkonaut commented on iOS holding my phone number hostage = the worst bug I’ve ever experienced   blog.benjaminste.in/post/... · Posted by u/benstein
sunsu · 12 years ago
I had this same problem and recently solved it by - putting my sim back into my old iOS phone. - reactivating iMessage on the old phone WITH the sim inside of the old phone - wait to make sure the phone fully registers with iMessage servers - deactivate iMessage WITH the sim inside the phone

After following these steps, I'm not problem free. I had tried many times before to reactivate/deactivate iMessage, but never with the sim back in the device.

arkonaut · 12 years ago
Not problem free or 'now' problem free? Would love to know if this solution works. Thanks!

What will the payout time be for it to hit the debit card? Is it instant? This is awesome by the way.
