Ads really aren't that bad. Targeted ads may even help you discover products you'll enjoy.

The ad in the article is pretty obviously an ad to anyone that can read the words, "New Series. Start Watching".

Ads like these that randomly display during idle is hardly what I consider invasive.

Hopefully OP's sister gets her mental health under control, but I wouldn't immediately raise pitch forks to ban an entire industry vital to the economy and business-consumer communication.

There are NO ads that are good. I will die on this hill
arkaic commented on Why do some gamers invert their controls?   theguardian.com/games/202... · Posted by u/zdw

I used to invert them but realized two things: 1: anyone can adapt to any control scheme given enough time (which isn't much) 2: majority of games default to, and people play with, non inverted controls. If you don't see yourself playing flight sims constantl y, it's just easier for everyone involved to learn the noninverted controls so that no one has to constantly change control mappings

For getting the feel of the milky way, I think there's nothing that is better able to simulate it than a video game, ala Elite Dangerous. I loved to navigate its galaxy map. The size of the Milky Way, the numbers of stars and distances between them are of scale in there if I recall correctly.

I echo the authors sentiment except for one thing: mobile-native editing experience. This is where Google Keep shines for me personally. I need to also be able to modify my notes immediately and with an intuitive note taking interface.

Since you asked, I downvoted you for asking about why you're being downvoted. Don't waste brain cells on fake internet points - it's bad for your health.

On this note, is Ytube also the best transcriber of foreign languages or is there something better?

Game dev. I like the idea of programming the core loops, but cannot fathom getting into assets and art design as I do not have a single artistic bone in my body
arkaic commented on Solidjs: Simple and performant reactivity for building user interfaces   solidjs.com/... · Posted by u/lastdong

Much of the official documentation now refers to server components as the "right" way to do certain things. Cra is end of life, with the replacement nextjs being heavily biased towards server components.

Your tooling certainly has changed in that you won't use cra any more, and I wouldn't agree that this direction does not detriment previous use cases.

Vite all the way....until that gets deprecated and forced to move to nextjs

I would pay a premium for a system that never gets any new features except for bug & security patches.

In fact, that's more or less what iOS was for a long time, and I loved every second of it.

Once you have a good feature set, you can spend years and years ironing out 100% of the bugs and vulnerabilities and you'd build a rabid fanbase of crotchety tech-saturated users like me. I want something that Just Works.

arkaic · 10 months ago
Ironically, this is EXACTLY what Google Keep (their notes app) is. Just a simple, cloud based sticky notes app that has barenones to no formatting features except for a basic checklist. It's perfect for me and has been that way for at least a decade. Knock on wood tho

Sam Hyde and his canceled adult swim show World Peace seem to stand out in my mind in that it feels hard to call it “very” politically fringe these days (which is a scary thought from plenty of reasonable perspectives). He’s pretty hugely popular on the internet, could almost certainly be swallowed up by standard old corporatism, but has so far been spit back out for the most part. Perhaps a sign of just how dominant vanilla corpora-liberalism is as the defining filter culture is sifted through.

Maybe the chapo trap house people or Adam Friedland or other socialism adjacent people fit the bill a little bit as well, but they seem more in line with the types that are ultimately corporately unpalatable, like you mention.

I would say a heavy YouTube presence is almost on par with corporate palatableness with respect to how not counterculture you may think something is. Want something "punk" in say the comedy world? Redbar
