until there's actual enforcement, there isn't the incentive to tell the truth...

It really is sad how much data has been captured and monetized of the average person. It seems like we're only continuing to turn up the heat as we continue to 'boil the frog'.

arez · 2 months ago
I thought that's why we have GDPR and similar laws, so you can enforce it? If the company says it deleted your data but it didn't it's definitely not complying with GDPR

That's kind of interesting. We always hear how much healthier Europe is then the US and there's always though things like American food is so fake it can't be sold in Europe. Seems the same problems are spreading or were always kind of there?

Been to Europe a couple times and I didn't think it seemed that much healthier. Italy especially, I put a ton of weight durring a vacation there.

you were probably eating tons of pizza and noodles in restaurants while on vacation. But the people that life there, A: don't go to restaurants every day B: are they eating pizza everyday and C: have probably healthier behaviors than you, like using a bike tonget around etc.

arez commented on You don't need Next.js – Why we migrated from Next to React   comfydeploy.com/blog/you-... · Posted by u/bennykokmusic

We use nextjs because we want to optimize the page for SEO and crawlability. If you don’t need your page to be crawlable (eg a dashboard behind a login), then there’s a good chance you don’t need nextjs, and pure React will indeed be simpler.
arez · 8 months ago
in what way has crawlability anything to do with that?

User-replaceable batteries will require additional space on your phone's body. I'm not willing to trade convenience for a rare battery replacement case.

If you want - you can buy modular phones, pay for that, don't force other people

And I'll go and pay a couple dozen bucks for this work, like all normal people. But eco-activists are starting to say that eWaste is caused by non-replaceable batteries, not by the obsolescence of devices. No one will change the battery in an outdated device, even if it is replaceable.

arez · 8 months ago
eWaste is caused by all kinds of things and one thing that is easily solvable is replaceable batteries. I also hope that it will be forced for all phones, people shouldn't be able to pay a little extra to destroy the planet

Next is actively a bad stack run by an incredibly shady company would be a good start
arez · 9 months ago
bad stack in what way? Why is vercel shady? I can understand that the business model is questionable to lock-in people with developing a framework that runs best on their own cloud, but shady would mean fot me, that they do something illegal

Really great product, I'm using inngest since 2-3 months and it definitely solved our problem. We needed a scheduling, queue, trigger solution. The docs are fairly good and it worked after some fiddling with our setup. I can quickly see every morning if all the jobs went through, we also starting to use them for webhooks now. Very happy, wrote at least 10 different functions in typescript so far

It would just be really good if companies stopped avoiding tax. Most countries are already pretty much bankrupt - it's worth thinking about for every debt (US National Debt is $35.35 trillion!!) there is a rich person on the end of it with the loan as an asset earning interest.

If companies avoid tax and rich people avoid tax it means more tax for normal people who work for a living.

arez · a year ago
Countries aren't bankrupt, they can't really go bankrupt if they use their own currency. Countries are not businesses they don't need to make money to be able to spend.

Tax shouldn't be seen as the countries income but as a tool for redistribution of wealth and to keep trust in the currency as a whole. If you don't have debt you don't have money, every printed dollar goes into the system and can be used in various things not only an asset earning interest
