I do actually love returning errors in TS. It solved most of the problems I have with error handling.

Yes not terrible, I think throwing is often worse. I do think that Golang forcing you to deal with Errors immediately is just a bit extreme, sometimes it’s nice to have a choice or create abstractions about how to handle them.

I do this and think it works really well...

myfunc(arg: string): Value | Err

I really try not to throw anymore with typescript, I do error checking like in Go. When used with a Go backend, it makes context switching really easy...

They still throw and just have millions of try catch blocks repeated everywhere around almost every function :-/

They are forcing people to write Typescript code like it’s Golang where I am right now (amongst other extremely stupid decisions - only unit test service boundaries, do not pull out logic into pure functions, do not write UI tests, etc.). I really must remember to ask organisations to show me their code before joining them.

(I realise this isn’t who is hiring, but email in bio)

One thing that appears to have been lost between GPT-4 and GPT-5 is that it no longer reminds the user that it's an AI and not a human, let alone a human expert. Maybe those genuinely annoyed people, but it seems like they were potentially useful measure to prevent users from being overly credulous

GPT-5 also goes out of its way to suggest new prompts. This seems potentially useful, although potentially dangerous if people are putting too much trust in them.

People seem to miss the humanity of previous GPTs from my understanding. GPT5 seems colder and more precise and better at holding itself together with larger contexts. People should know it’s AI, it does not need to explain this constantly for me, but I’m sure you can add that back in with some memory options if you prefer that?

This conversation seems like politics not technology. The act (which is awful) has already been done to death on here.

So blocking a sale at a $20B valuation so the company can IPO at a $19.3B valuation 3 years later (a loss of $700M in value over 3 years) is a success?
andy_ppp · 22 days ago
Why would Figma have sold to Adobe if they were not paying a premium, assuming they’d grow?

I can understand you looking at the headline valuation but as an independent company traded with lots of potential to grow with AI tools their stock will probably double… a quick Google appears to suggest a 250% uplift from the IPO price so the company would potentially have added $58bn (the figure I’ve seen quoted) to Adobe’s bottom line.

Lina Khan was right at least on this merger!

There’s zero evidence and many clinical trials showing ivermectin is not effective against COVID. I don’t watch CNN I just believe we should use the scientific method to figure things out not theories people post on YouTube.
