Gaming of the procurement system. The websites are all written by big consulting outfits. Not to mention the disaster that is big corporate IT projects combined with government rules.

Obama had the Digital Service (that Trump shut down) which paid higher salaries. Those folks were sharp and everything they touched was actually decent.

As I noted this is not unique to government. Large corporate projects at the Fortune 500 are often the same sort of consultant-driven crap.

Digital Service didn't shut down, it just temporarily got retasked to DOGE.

Japan has extremely favorable copyright laws to the holders. My understanding is that without explicit permission, there is no fair use and so any reproduction or modified work is only allowed as long as they don't request a takedown.

Japanese copyright law still has a few statutory exceptions.

LLMs are nothing like compilers. This sort of analogy based verbal reasoning is flimsy, and I understand why it correlates with projecting intelligence onto LLM output.

We are just not used to non-deterministic translation of computer programs and LLMs are very good at non-deterministic translation.

It has both raw and summarized traces.

I mean raw GPT-OSS is close to summarised o3.

Part of the secret sauce since O1 has been accesss the real reasoning traces, not the summaries.

If you even glance at the model card you'll see this was trained on the same CoT RL pipeline as O3, and it shows in using the model: this is the most coherent and structured CoT of any open model so far.

Having full access to a model trained on that pipeline is valuable to anyone doing post-training, even if it's just to observe, but especially if you use it as cold start data for your own training.

Its CoT is sadly closer to that sanitised o3 summaries than to R1 style traces.

Why isn't GPT-OSS also offered on the free tier of ChatGPT?

Well, that's what oil and coal are. Oil is formed from marine biomass, and coal is formed from plants.

Coal no longer forms, oil is still forming but far slower than the rate consumed.

Alternatives to legal identification requirements being available isn't my experience. How do you even imagine that? Going to a local post office to show an ID anytime you want to open pornhub and your i_am_adult=token cookie has expired?

Using the e-government log in to said adult website?

Cool, in what court? EU court? It would be the EU doing this. Want to do business in the EU, GDPR extends to giving us the keys as well if you’re going to valet park here. Or they can go kick rocks while smart engineers in member countries build a new android. After all, a lot has changed since someone decided to bolt Java onto a Linux kernel.
