You failed to mention that this is an ad for the company you work at. Also, the links don't even work without signing up for some shitty service.

Hey ipsum, sorry I could have mentioned that. We spend a ton of effort on open source and sharing our ML knowledge with the community. If you don't want to use our platform, the entire source code and a tutorial is there to run it on your own.

Someone made a good argument on Reddit when discussing Australia which is also has a slowish rail network.

It is a 3hr drive Sydney to Canberra and 4hr on train. Mainly because the train track was originally for freight so has more curves than needed for passenger.

They said rather than aim for a super fast train just improve the tracks we have and get the time down to 3hr to compete with the car.

This is a good point because then you get more revenues and usage (the trains are full right now but infrequent - maybe they can run them every 15 minutes)

Then you can go make the case for an even faster train for 2050.

The Japanese Shinkansen is something else. Doing my first decent trip on one this week and can't wait!

Australia has a slowish rail network because it is sparsely populated. It is an extreme version of America, the distances between population centers are quite large and there's not much in-between. There's also not much reason for anyone from Sydney to visit Canberra, and if you do, you certainly need a car to get around.

That’s the software platform used to deploy it

LitServe is a flexible serving engine for AI models built on FastAPI. Features like batching, streaming, and GPU autoscaling eliminate the need to rebuild a FastAPI server per model.

The examples featured on the litserve page include a range of applications such as large language models (LLMs), natural language processing (NLP), multimodal tasks, audio processing, vision models, speech synthesis, classical machine learning (ML) algorithms, and a media conversion API, demonstrating the versatility of litserve in deploying various machine learning models and services.

You also might want to "clarify" that it is not open source (and neither are any of the other "open source" models). If you want to call it something, try "open weights", although the usage restrictions make even that a HUGE FUCKING STRETCH.

Also, everybody should remember that these models are not copyrightable and you should never agree to any license for them...

andymcsherry · a year ago
I get the sentiment, but one of their models, albeit the worst one, is licensed under Apache without usage restrictions. The source to run the models is also open source.

My personal opinion, the first thing we should do is a complete ban on all “professional” and/or spectator sport in any and all educational institution. You can still have classes teaching sports but no spectators and definitely no “college spirit” nonsense.

It doesn’t matter to me if these sports generate more revenue than it costs. It is a distraction that we don’t need. If people want to participate in spectator sport, there are other places for it.

My justification is the same as that Google uses to kill projects. There might be a project at Google that makes a hundred million dollars of “pure profit”. However, if it takes even equivalent of a month of time and attention of the executive leadership team and the board every year, it is decidedly not worth doing and must be scrapped.

Similarly, it doesn’t matter to me how much money sports and other such distractions make. If it takes time and attention of the management and or the board of regents, it must be scrapped. Educational institutions exist for education. Cut it all out!

Yeah, disagree. College sports generate a significant amount of revenue for the university, which funds scholarships for a huge number of students that otherwise couldn't afford to go there. They have the added benefit of being fun and add entertainment to the college experience.
