I am also surprised it's so low (the number who haven't read). I would have expected 3 in 5 or even 4 in 5 americans to have not read a single book in 2025. I wonder if these stats include "tried to finish a book (and failed)" rather than actual completion stats.

The article, and many of the responses, are hinting at the fact that bubblesort is an example of an anytime algorithm. This is a wide class of algorithms which provide a correct answer after some amount of time, but provide an increasingly good answer in increasing amounts of time short of the completion time. This is a super valuable property for real time systems (and many of the comments about games and animations discuss that). The paper that introduced me to the category is "Anytime Dynamic A*" [0], and I think it's both a good paper and a good algorithm to know.

Am I missing something? If the algorithm is interrupted, the list will not be sorted. How exactly does it fit the criteria of an anytime algo?

I have afib and have been cardioverted once ~4 years ago. Own a kardia ekg and a regular blood pressure cuff. Coffee increases my pulse, but the waveform remains normal. Alcohol is the real killer, a very small amount like a beer will immediately show in ekg waveform abnormalities. Enough to get a buzz and it's a warzone let alone actually drunk. It's also surprising how long it lasts even into the hungover and no longer drunk zone. I'm not a doctor, but I would personally recommend to cut out all drinking with an occurrence of afib and yes, this is conjecture, but any sort of heart condition. I'm also not being sponsored by kardia and am creeped out by it storing my data presumably on the cloud.

Speaking of using custom CSS with YouTube, I do the following for my experience:

- Completely hide the recommended tab

- Make every thumbnail grayscale (to mitigate eye-catching thumbnails)

- Make every video title lowercase (to mitigate eye-catching titles)

Here's my code, although I have to update it every once and a while when YouTube changes:

  yt-thumbnail-view-model { filter: grayscale(); }
  h3[title] { text-transform: lowercase; }
  .ytd-watch-flexy #secondary { display: none !important; }
It's amazing how much a couple small changes can make on your browsing experience. The companies that own these products have a huge incentive to make every element purposefully addictive. I've also patched the iOS Instagram app to remove all Reels (using FLEXtool & Sideloadly), so I can keep up with my friends without falling into the traps. As developers, we have the ability to target these manipulative tactics and remove them, and I encourage you to do this as much as possible.

Can you explain how you patched the iOS IG app? Seems massively useful if it's not too much of a pain. Please share!

Is it just me or is the total amount of funding at the Sovereign Tech fund (https://www.sovereign.tech/faq) hilariously small? 11.5 mil eur right now? 17 mil next year? Better than nothing of course, but...

Plenty of progress in models that can use tools and search. Would love to see how one of these tool/search-enabled models do at this kind of a task. In my experience, they don't fabricate things anymore, just sometimes occasionally misrepresent the content of citations (put a citation somewhere where it doesn't actually support what is written).

That's hilarious that you give the villagers thought and the first thing they want to do is overthrow Tom Nook. If this works in Gamecube on an emulator, surely it'd be possible to make it work on the Switch emulators as well?
amilios · 5 months ago
Would require decompilation of the Animal Crossing game code for the Switch. I believe DRM has gotten a lot better since the Gamecube days as well. Hypothetically possible maybe but good luck haha

There's something about taking old games and injecting new life into them that just seems so fun and exciting! Also very interesting to know that the Animal Crossing codebase has been decompiled into readable C code. Fascinating! So many opportunities to mess with it.

I've been using a degoogled phone for 5 years now. Virtually no problems with magisk installed. What are you suggesting?

Are you able to use banking apps, etc.? Genuinely curious.
