> No one actually believes that all or even most of the buildings destroyed in this campaign was "used by Hamas" if you are being honest with yourself. It's obviously collective punishment and revenge with a little bit of show ("we dropped leaflets" or "we sent warnings by SMS") for those who need it in order to go to bed at night.

Sorry, no. I don't believe that.

Granted, I'm Israeli, and have far more trust in the Israeli public and soldiers than most people in the world. But it really is true that Hamas uses human shields. It really is true that they place bases in places like hospitals.

And it also is really true that many, hopefully most Israelis, wouldn't comply with an order to bomb a building only to kill civilians with no military value.

I understand why that might be a statement that outsiders wouldn't trust. And I'm sure there have been plenty of mistakes and even many times where people did do the wrong thing, like in every conflict in the world. I just don't think that as a matter of policy, Israel is bombing buildings with no military reason.

What could possibly ground your faith in the Israeli government, given the intelligence failure of massive proportions we all witnessed on 10/7? How can you believe that the same government which failed to foresee a massive Hamas offensive on its own border just weeks ago, is now suddenly aware of the exact positions of underground Hamas bases deep within the Gaza strip, and is even privy to phone calls between Hamas operatives?

That's also not to mention the many times Israel has been caught lying to cover its own military actions. You only have to look as far back as the targeted killing of Shireen Abu Akleh

I was wondering what kind of business this company was in because the guy sounded so serious and they run blog and review spammy type websites that act as sales funnels for personal finance, high speed internet and moving companies. Like I am not going above and beyond in personal sacrifice for that.

It's also precisely the kind of thing that no one needs to be in an office to do

>The UK workers didn't just say "don't fire us." They offered a ton of different options that, based on actual data, would have produced the same savings as the proposed layoffs. These included things like voluntary layoffs. All of these proposals were rejected.

What were the specific list of proposals? The only one you mentioned (voluntary layoffs) is a bad idea because it leads the most talented people to leave.

absrd · 3 years ago
If they're both the most talented and also don't want to work for you, what makes you think they'd stay?

A friend of mine worked at a public airline and whenever they had a bad quarter, things like coffee would get cut so people would feel it. But those types of industries operate on razor thin margins.

how did your friend feel it when they had a good quarter?

Actually voters elected congress which passed a law to encourage arbitration. So this is congress and will of voters. Don’t like it? Elect different folks is best approach - this would be an easy law to change.

As we know everything congress does is good and in accordance with the will of the voters

Over 95% of all comments on HN about business come from people who have never run a non-trivial business. This is beyond obvious to anyone who has.

While I am sure it feels great to have and voice an opinion about everything, at some point, in the interest of not engaging in self-deception, one has to be honest in recognizing lack of knowledge.

Put a different way: If you have never had to fire 100 people or more, it might be a good idea to recognize you likely are not equipped to understand that reality.

I wonder if you'd apply this same standard to those who criticize politicians.
