I would be much more intrested in a piece on what you can train with this kind of rig, rather than the rig itself

That seems highly likely given Sam Friedman's extensive reputation across multiple companies as being abusive, a compulsive liar, and willing to outright do blatantly illegal things like using a celebrity's voice and then, well...lie about it.

Good question.

Also makes me wonder -- where's the line? Is it reasonable to have "layperson" reviewers? Is it reasonable to think that regular citizens could review such content?

_just7_ · 2 years ago
No, infact most journals have peer reviews cordoned off, not viewable to the general public.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intuitive_Machines_Nova-C#Eagl...:

“EagleCam to record lunar landing

Just before landing, at approximately 30 m (98 ft) above the lunar surface, the Odysseus lander will eject the EagleCam camera-equipped CubeSat, which will drop onto the lunar surface near the lander, with an impact velocity of about 10 m/s (22 mph). From the surface the EagleCam will attempt to capture the first third-person images of a lunar landing. The EagleCam will use a Wi-Fi connection to the Odysseus lander to relay its images back to Earth.”

That CubeSat is student built. I wonder what camera they have and how hard it will be to make it record the landing. Will it orient itself during that six-ish second drop or can it move the camera after landing? Does it have a fisheye lens to increase the likelihood of the lander being in its field of vision?

Unfortunately, their project page (https://erau.edu/eaglecam) seems to be light on such details.

_just7_ · 2 years ago
The simplest way to do it is probably just to have a high quality 360 camera, that way you mostly get around the problem of orientation

> Drilling into, or above, the magma chamber below Yellowstone would be fraught with problems. For one, it could potentially cause the volcano to erupt, the very thing we’re trying to avoid.

They did kill a whole bunch of things... like the ability to rent at a reasonable rate and the ability to get a mortgage that doesn't lean heavily on the 'mort' part.
_just7_ · 3 years ago
Yeah I don't really think a meaningfully larger amount people are traveling because Airbnb is an app that exist, so demand from tourism should stay flat, no?
_just7_ commented on Sam Altman isn’t the answer to regulating artificial intelligence   bloomberg.com/opinion/art... · Posted by u/RafelMri

Yeah. Walking into Congress and agreeing with every barb thrown his way is a red flag to me. OpenAI has made AI fear mongering a central plank in their marketing platform. I think their goal is to convince the government to build a regulatory moat around their business.

Why? Because they see the writing on the wall. There’s no network effect here. Anyone can build AI. There are thousands of students going into grad school to study this stuff. The market is going to be flooded.

All of their head start will evaporate unless they can build a moat around it to keep new entrants out. What better way to do that than to have your rockstar pitch man walk into Congress and have them eating out of his hand? They practically begged him to head up a new regulatory agency!

_just7_ · 3 years ago
I mostly agree that there is probably some self-interest at play when they ask for regulation. Though the fact that one of the existing firms in the industry wants regulation doesn't invalidate all the legitimate reason for regulation. For example, existing car manufacturers might benefit significantly from all the safety requirements for cars as they create a barrier to entry for new players, but I doubt that many people want to abolish all the testing and certification cars have to go through.
