Really depends on your use case. I personally still run my 17 year old 2.4GHz Core 2 duo with 4GB of RAM as my daily runner. I simply do not hit the walls even on that thing. Most folks here simply would not accept that and not because they are spoilt but their works loads demand more.

Nothing older than Nehalem and Bulldozer got microcode mitigations for Spectre, so I'd say running a C2D online would be a liability by now.

I hope they stop superglueing the batteries inside the phones.

Gotta disagree with you on your minimalist verdict, out of the box openbsd tends to have everything and the kitchen sink, I am not complaining, it is good solid well written software. but I have never found a base linux distro that was as well stocked as a base openbsd install.

    a c compiler
    a web server
    3 routing daemons(bgpd, ospfd, ripd)
    a mail server(smtpd, spamd)
    a sound server(sndiod)
    a reverse proxy(relayd)
    2 desktop environments(fvwm, cwm)
    plus many many more
Openbsd is not some minimalist highly focused operating system, I mean what on earth is it actually for? based on the included features, A desktop development system that is also the router and office web and mail server?

Personally I love it, after a fresh install I always feel like I could rebuild the internet from scratch using only what is found in front of me if I needed to.

fvwm and cwm are window managers, definitely not DEs.

Then what was your preceding comment supposed to mean?
Paianni · 20 days ago
My point is that small button GUIs should be a choice for the people who want to put up with them, not something that's pushed for universal use.

Being able to use mouse and keyboard makes you a power user in 2025?

No

Those users won't use Devuan or Gnome but Android/iOS.
Paianni · 22 days ago
They may not personally choose Devuan or GNOME but they might end up using them because an administrator chose them.

Meh, it looks pretty in screenshots but it's a huge waste of screen space in the end.

I suppose 'power-users' can put up with 'small-button' GUIs but I do think a general purpose GUI needs to be easy to use for people who aren't used to controlling mice and keyboards all the time.

You say that like it's a bad thing.

I don't like GNOME's engineering or license, but as far as the UI and design are concerned I don't think anyone has topped it (minus the hot corner I guess).

The Devuan version may end up being the last that GNOME will run on...
