Interestingly, it wasn’t actually Ridings in the dk1 underworld: https://dungeonkeeper.fandom.com/wiki/Richard_Ridings

If anyone is yearning to play, DK is alive and well: https://keeperfx.net

It's really fun to read through all the work they have done https://github.com/dkfans/keeperfx

Big in denmark too. My parents always used it as a way to regulate our candy-intake, by postponing all candy until the weekend, so i’m surprised to read the intention was sort of the opposite.

I’d also note that Scandinavia is big on “hygge” and being home (unlike countries with warmer climates) and weekend snacks and sweets are an obvious way to make the experience comfy.

My dad would go fishing on the beach with his formula 1 labrador. While my dad was in the water fishing, the dog would swim around him in circles. It could swim for an hour without break. It was very cute and impressive, but of course it would also scare the fish away. The dog would also be quite curious about the seals, but I've never seen them play like in the article. A lovely dog, but they have an uncontrollable appetite which can be pretty annoying.

Side note, but if you're trying to sell off this stuff, you better do it soon. Train nuts like this are a dying breed. Probably will all be mostly worthless in a couple decades, along with commemorative plates, or the "good china" your parents never use.

Market is hot(ish) now though, or was a few years ago. A friends dad died and he had trains. We helped ebay all of it. Owned a toy store or something, lots of rare stuff (like window displays). We even had a guy buy one of the rare posters, return it for questionable reasons, and then start selling counterfeits. Even so, the grand total wasn't a ton of money, more within the "worth doing" category.

Why?

To me it seems there are more hobbyists than ever. It's finally "cool" to play DnD, Covid gave hobbies a big boost and people yearn to do something away from screens.

I watched this clip recently https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xJU-4fYejiw being turned onto it by super dave being a guest on Norm Mcdonalds show.

It's an interesting time capsule. Peter Marshall using a racial slur on live television, Sly being stoned out of his mind.
