I wonder when games will start supporting Linux natively, especially after the Steam Machine is released.
Master_Odin · 2 months ago
Given how good Proton is, I don't think it's useful to target Linux for most indie devs unless it's a one click build for multiple platforms. Even then, I've definitely had more issues with games with native Linux builds than Proton, where there's been a number of games I've set to use Proton over native to get better performance.

So you pushed a PR that breaks a bunch of tests, added a 5 layer nested if branch block that mixes concerns all over the place, then ignored the reviewer for three weeks, and you’re surprised they didn’t approve it?
Master_Odin · 2 months ago
The OP directly says:

> that the Bun Claude bot created a PR for about 3 weeks ago

The PR with bad code that's also been ignored was made by the bot that Bun made, and brags about in their acquisition post.

This has confused me for long enough. What specific action did Obama do to be awarded the Nobel peace prize?
Master_Odin · 4 months ago
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2009_Nobel_Peace_Prize provides a good overview of why he got the award and the surrounding controversy.

i don't know how people can build something and leave behind a coherent series of commits that tell a nice story of progressively building a thing.

my commits include lots of false-starts that get abandoned and "i need to commit this interim state because i deprioritized this and will come back later".

the sequence of events that i used to build the thing isn't necessarily the best sequence of events to tell the story of what the final thing is.

sometimes you can get a good story by stacking PRs, but if the stack gets too deep you can end up with some rebase nightmares.

Master_Odin · 5 months ago
I'm a strong believer that PRs should be merged via a "squash and merge" strategy, with the singular commit being descriptive of the overall change and having a link back to the PR for deeper story analysis as needed. I'm also a staunch believer at this point that PRs should really focus on one thing as well. If when working on a bug you discover another semi-related bug? Open two PRs.

Let main be the story of how code got from point A to B, and PRs be the story of how each incremental step was made.

This is so cool. It opens up a whole new dimension to messing with old video games where AI can change things like how characters move, loot box contents etc.
Master_Odin · 5 months ago
In terms of changing loot box contents, that has been going on for at least the past like 7+ years through "randomizers", though I think mostly used by speed runners.

I'm still not sold on this. I can't yet distinguish if the plan is to get rid of institutions or to gut what's their and rebuild it how the want it.

We may not end up with a smaller government, just a different one.

Master_Odin · a year ago
The Republican plan for the federal government for decades has been to try to kneecap various agencies and departments so fully that they can't function well, go "look how poorly they operate! Time to close it down and let private sector handle it!"
Master_Odin commented on Why We're Falling Out of Love with Tesla   worldcrunch.com/business-... · Posted by u/teleforce

I don't own stock in Tesla. How do shareholders of any of his companies consider it acceptable for Musk to do what he is doing as a CEO? By that I mean, dividing his attention between so many projects, and co-opting the resources of one company for another. It reeks of a potential shareholder lawsuit waiting to happen.
Master_Odin · a year ago
I think that they've been fine with it so long as the stock price has continued to climb. If it starts to meaningfully fall, I'd except sentiment to more meaningfully change on him running multiple businesses/DOGE.
