JustSomeNobody commented on A $1k Wheelchair   newmobility.com/not-a-whe... · Posted by u/bo0tzz

That sort of “I googled for 30 seconds, and found a cheaper option, why does this project exist” type response is anti-curiosity and anti-learning.

It is possible that the YouTuber guy is a total idiot and decided to make a $1000 wheelchair instead of buying a $200 one, but that shouldn’t be a default assumption, haha.

It’s like being outraged and asking “Trek and Cannondale exist, why do we need fifty other bike makers?” When some new manufacturers pop up.

I don’t get the negativity.

Call me snarky but instead of just multiply/devide by 1.6, you rather prefer remembering the Fibonacci numbers up to, I don't know, 200 to be useful?

How often you drive 200mph??

Thought I heard the name before: https://www.photobox.co.uk/

Probably a good idea to change the name now... However, I'm always surprised people don't search for the name of their project before using it. Also, if common TLDs are already registered, I'd usually avoid using the name as well in case of future success and spoofing the domains.

This happens too often for it to just not be on purpose.

Nope.

I get it, it's Apple and it's great and all that.

I'm just not going to wear that on my face.

I'm not.

JustSomeNobody commented on The planning of U.S. physician shortages (2020)   niskanencenter.org/the-pl... · Posted by u/flummox

What is a nutshell explanation of how healthcare got to the overall shortage state? (For the USA, but curious about other countries.) In the past 20 years, costs have shot up, doctors are seeing many more patients, and quality of care seems to have generally declined. Where have the resources gone? In the 1990s my GP had time to shoot the breeze for 20 minutes or more. Now I get a 5-minute diagnosis on the run, after scheduling months in advance.

We did a several thousand mile road trip a couple years ago. We planned it out using various online tools and pen and paper. Will have to look into doing something like this the next time.

The kiddos got to see a LOT of really cool things. They had a blast.

JustSomeNobody commented on Using Google’s code history to write more code   ai.googleblog.com/2023/05... · Posted by u/tim_sw

What I want is to write less code. I'd like automated analysis help with finding better more concise ways to render the logic. More code != better.

>More code != better.

>more concise ways to render the logic

This isn't better either.

Edit before the shitstorm:

This isn't necessarily better either.

I feel like our country is extremely unprepared for what climate change is going to mean for everyone in a decade or two.

It starts with insurance not covering large areas of the coast, water scarcity in dry regions, etc. Pretty soon you have expensive energy, mass migrations, widespread shortages, and politicians yelling jingoistic chants at rallies.

Everyone acts like 20 years from now gas will be more expensive and we’ll get some coastal flooding. These people are hopelessly optimistic. it’s going to get really bad once the dominos start falling.

> I feel like our country is extremely unprepared for what climate change is going to mean for everyone in a decade or two.

The general populace is definitely unprepared. Those with means know what is coming and they're "getting mine while the getting is good" before it all goes to shit. Which, of course, means making things worse.

Hmmm... what's this little springy thing on my Garmin watch? Oh! check that out! I can replace the bands!

Apple makes cool stuff, I even have some of it, but stop suckin' their butts.

JustSomeNobody commented on Had a call with Reddit to discuss pricing   old.reddit.com/r/apolloap... · Posted by u/robbiet480

I don't disagree that it's one point of view, but I hardly believe both examples do not have a simpler explanation: both companies no longer want APIs for third-party clients.

Elon wanted to turn it completely off and was probably convinced to ban the accounts of all the third-party clients and to try and harass the world's many weather services to pay 42,000$ a month.

Reddit has one credible third-party client: Apollo. He's always been fairly transparent about his money flow, so it's exceedingly easy for Reddit to price him out and put the fear of god into any developer interested in a Reddit client.

Ooof. I mean, if you're only an iOS user, maybe?
