Thanks for the links. Strangely I cannot get past the arhive.is "I am not a robot" wall. I click it, then it refreshes, I click it again, and then it asks me to find Traffic Lights, and then "I am not a robot," repeat.

Maybe I need a bot to do this for me...

Are you behind finnish IP? The site owner decided to ban all Finnish IPs due to a dispute with Finnish person who doesn't even seem to be living there. Also they DDoSed their blog leading to archive.is being banned from wikipedia

I haven’t been able to see actual results that match those tests in the Motorolas sadly. Maybe it’s more accurate in technical terms but I haven’t found good results in practice.

>Pixels have fantastic camera hardware and software which is fully functional on GrapheneOS which isn't something we need to lose on a Motorola flagship.

This is very interesting to me! Does graphene OS manage to keep google’s processing? How does that work?

Itoldmyselfso · 11 days ago
Pixel camera app is fully supported by GOS, you just install it from Play store (or from other sources). If you don't have Google Photos installed the last photo preview won't work, but you can install a 'shim' app that fixes it without need for Photos app: https://github.com/lukaspieper/Gcam-Services-Provider

What, exactly, is sandboxed Google play prevented from accessing? Can I feed it a fake location or disable location access? Is it prevented from running in the background 24/7? Can I force it and just it through a VPN? Or is it just blocked from accessing apps and files that aren't in the sandbox? There are many such questions and all could be considered "sandbox".
Itoldmyselfso · 11 days ago
Sandboxed Google Play receives no special access at all, so you can deny it all permissions if you want, but you should grant network (and maybe notifications) permission for it to actually function.

Yeah, like how does the collective mental health and well-being of society affect you in any way, bro? Mind your own biz... /s

The claim that it actually has any measurable effect on the collective health and well-being currently lacks any proof besides "intuition".

Yes, but I made an argument about /e/OS and GrapheneOS. You never knows what will work or stop working.
Itoldmyselfso · 14 days ago
Motorola just made a deal with GrapheneOS, so I'd vager they're going to be around for longer on that basis alone.

That is all nice and well, but Google is primarily an advertisement business. A huge corporation that gained enormous power that operates only to satisfy its own self interest. So that gives us non-Googlers more to think about than just that consideration to take into account.
Itoldmyselfso · 14 days ago
It is an entirely realistic scenario which afaik data backs up that most people don't change their default privacy related settings which Google profits from, but in case of actually setting their provided privacy settings ON, they do work.

A large part of "degoogling" to me means "stop giving google money" and "cut off Google entirely from my life".

If I have to give Google a lot of money every 4-6 years to remain "de-googled" then I never was.

Itoldmyselfso · 14 days ago
You can buy used Pixel, effectively not giving money to Google, or buy a Motorola when their GOS phone is released
Itoldmyselfso commented on Block the “Upgrade to Tahoe” alerts   robservatory.com/block-th... · Posted by u/todsacerdoti

I accidentally hit the wrong button a few weeks ago and upgraded to Tahoe. I didn't think it was that big a deal at the time, I'd just been putting it off.

But having used it for a few weeks now I can confirm it is a strict downgrade over Sequoia for me. I use none of the new features it has introduced, and the changes to existing features are just worse.

Some UI animations are slow and jittery - and this is on an M4 Pro. The Finder has gone from fine to janky once again, especially with horizontal scroll. The window corners and mouse interactions are indeed annoying (I'd assumed the many complaints were at least slight hyperbole). Left-aligned window titles are unbalanced and ugly. I've had weird (visual) app duplication issues with the Application smart-folder in the Dock. Cross-device copy-paste SEEMS to be more flaky than usual. And most petty of all I really don't like the new icons - especially the Trash icon for some reason.

I also accidentally upgraded due dark pattern of auto-selecting Sequoia instead of update for Sonoma. Now my external monitor won't wake up when waking my macbook from sleep (in clamshell mode, lid always closed). Nothing fixes it, beyond infuriating.

Even CNN is reporting that this unprovoked attack was lined up with a Jewish holiday celebrating the killing of non-jews: https://x.com/chrisbrunet/status/2027665287982502195

The first thing the US/Israel did was murder 80+ children with an attack on a girl's elementary school (warning graphic): https://x.com/ME_Observer_/status/2027787999409266991

Meanwhile, jewish israelis are celebrating the attack in their bunkers: https://x.com/SZade15/status/2027695217286189363

Itoldmyselfso · 15 days ago
The attack was reportedly timed for a surprise attack on Iranian leaders who happened to be in the same location at this time. They even attacked during the daytime for a risky surprise attack. To suggest the attack had anything to do with the holiday is beyond ridiculous. Also ridiculous to think they would intentionally attack a random school.
