HungSu commented on Ask HN: Has anyone else been unemployed for over two years?    · Posted by u/ncarlson

Took me 15 months to find a job after a layoff and then I accepted the first offer that came, which is basically worse in every aspect compared to my previous job. I've read all your stories and feel unexpectedly so connected with each of you. It can be hard. I just want to wish you all the best.

I don't know you either, but I feel weirdly and unexpectedly connected to your message too. I'm 4 months into a layoff, still hunting. Appreciate your message!
HungSu commented on The Fall of Roam (2022)   every.to/superorganizers/... · Posted by u/ingve

The author began to realise the truth: that the quality of his writing is very low on average. Then he moved away from that realisation to the thought that Roam or some other kind of automation could somehow save him.

Perhaps what he needs is for the tool to automatically ask him "Is it okay to delete this note from 60 days ago?" That should be long enough for him to lose any attachment to what he wrote and a lot of the time he should say yes, and delete the crap.

HungSu commented on Gaining access to anyones Arc browser without them even visiting a website   kibty.town/blog/arc/... · Posted by u/xyzeva

Yeah I’m so torn. It’s honestly the best browser UX I’ve seen, the right combination of vertical tabs, auto archiving, spaces/collections, sync, etc. I don’t care for Easels, but the core is good.

Except… the growth hacks have started to creep in. They overlay an advert for their own AI services on top of regular Google search results pages in their mobile app. Not even a browser chrome UI element, it’s literally over the page content. That feels like a huge violation of what it means to be a browser.

I don’t want their AI features. I don’t want growth hacks. I don’t want to sign in except for sync. I’d happily pay $40 a year for Arc as a product-focused-product, but as a VC-focused-product it’s heading downhill.

Not to WOMM, but as a data point, it's working perfectly for me in Firefox on Windows with uBlock Origin. Is this one of those A/B test things where I'll get it eventually? I know the ad bomb rolled out slowly[0] and we know they're looking for a way to foil ad blocking without drawing bad press and regulatory scrutiny.

HungSu commented on Ask HN: Are you still using your Vision Pro?    · Posted by u/dgellow

Yes, almost every day. I travel regularly and I love having a big, crisp, private display every where I am: Hotel, plane, train. Makes me so much more productive.

Consuming content is great of course but the AVP has changed my content creation: I take way more panoramas and now spatial photos (Spatialify on iOS works well). I also bought an Insta X4 360 camera which, while a far cry from Apple's immersive content in resolution, can still be a really nice way to relive memories.

More content: Last year I started 3d scanning (using Scaniverse) sculptures and other art / items that catch my eye during my travels. The AVP makes it really easy to import and place them in my environment. When I'm working I'll often place a favorite sculpture next to me for company & as a reminder of a trip I took.

Finally, even after 4 months of use, it's still really fun and, from a tech perspective, astounding in terms of image quality, stability, 3D placement, integration in environment, etc. I love it and I can't wait for this tech to get better and better.

Scaniverse sounds great! Have you compared it to other scanning apps like Polycam?

If you already use Tailscale, Taildrop [1] works great.

From that doc:

> Taildrop is currently limited to sending files between your own personal devices. You cannot send files to devices owned by other users even on the same Tailscale network.

Another way to get something supposedly more stable than wifi when ethernet cabling is not feasible is to use your house's electric wiring and run data through that. There are kits which offer data rates in gigabits (although based on a few reviews I read the actual speed vary greatly).

HungSu commented on Godly – Astronomically good web design inspiration   godly.website/... · Posted by u/spansoa
Unai · 2 years ago
Does anyone have a web design inspiration site that's focused on sites that just look good and have a good UI & UX instead of collecting the most out there canvas animation thingies? Those might look good, but I can't get inspired by something that I can't replicate without a team of multidisciplinary people doing 3D design, WebGL, etc.

I used to have a number of good ones added to my RSS reader, but they have slowly cease to update. I could google for inspiration sites like that, but I know google will only give me listicle SEO spam.

HungSu · 2 years ago
You asked for "web design inspiration" but you sound like you're asking for UI design, which is a different skill. For that I recommend Mobbin:

I find godly.website a helpful resource, but I also agree too many of these are design studios and are of no interest to me. Even if you set the filter to web UI, it tends to showcase the sales page and not the UI.

Mobbin is probably more useful to most people:
