Are the AI bro lobbyists asleep at the wheel? I assumed human creativity was already sold to the highest bidder.

America voted for cons, crooks and thugs. And is getting conned, crooked and thugged.

Entirely predictable. And well deserved. I say this as someone living and suffering in America.

There is no one else to blame but ourselves. The future is bleak.

FractalHQ · 10 months ago
“The people” are too stupid to blame unfortunately, they have no idea what’s going on.

Average IQ Americans freebase propaganda and Joe Rogan for thoughts. The Kremlin and the Republican propaganda empire have been paving the way for a Project 2025 Neo Nazi hostile takeover for decades.

John Doe from Florida doesn’t stand much of a chance when every TV, cell phone, and Facebook bot in his state is beaming the world’s largest psy-ops laser-beam at his head for half of his life.

I tend to blame the Fascists. But yea, the future is bleak. We’re cooked in America, at least.

We should start recommending UIs as the default way to learn Git. It would solve a third of these problems and another third wouldn't even come up.

If you later decide that the CLI is faster, go ahead. But first, people need to see visually how they can interact with the tree.

I like fork.dev, but most clients are pretty similar at this point.

lazygit ! Just needed to throw out a mention because it’s an amazing tui for visual orientation, is super fast, and can be used with a mouse and keyboard (or just keyboard) from the terminal. I saw it mentioned on a thread here last year and have preferred it as a fast “oh crap I think I made a mess lets back up” tool over the more complex gui apps I’ve tried (almost all of them).
FractalHQ commented on Nintendo announces the Switch 2 [video]   youtube.com/watch?v=itpcs... · Posted by u/HelloUsername

Happy to see that Nintendo is treating the switch more like how they traditionally handled their mobile platforms instead of their consoles.

Iterating instead of throwing out everything with each new version. There is a part of me that is going to miss the, do weird shit and see what works, Nintendo that brought us some really fun ideas. But a stable Nintendo just being able to continue putting out great games has its advantages.

I am curious about the specs, but honestly don't care much. The only real issue the Switch had was being able to keep up with some of the games put on it with FPS but it still had beautiful games (like Tears of the Kingdom). So as long as it is actually a decent spec bump I am happy and have zero care to compare it to the other consoles (but I am sure people are going too and scream that it is "underpowered").

The biggest thing I am curious about, will it be OLED since that will be disappointing to go back to non OLED from the OLED Switch. And Price.

The games are crippled by how archaic and underpowered the hardware is. TOTK is beautiful _despite_ the hardware limiting its true potential, robbing world class studios, and forcing them to cut corners.

It’s indefensible considering how much legendary IP that potato is holding hostage.

People are choosing the cheapest option because they don’t have any money. It’s not that complicated.
FractalHQ · a year ago
Exactly this. Because capitalism tells us to pay people the minimum (which isn’t enough) and charge them the maximum (which is too much) and suddenly living is unaffordable for the majority.

Airline loyalty programs should be illegal in view of environmental concerns.

Airlines should be a federal service like the post office, not for profit companies cramming the poor like sardines and scamming them over baggage space.

So is art itself. AI art is the ultimate fuck you to the IP/Copyright crowd, and the fact that the supposedly left wing artists are turning into Luddite copyright trolls at the moment that their field becomes opened to the masses tells me that most folks who purport to hold left wing sympathies actually don’t. I always knew that the performative leftism thing was bullshit. RMS, Aaron Swartz, huggingface and mistral are far more liberatory than 50 years of Marxist artists wasting our time with empty claims of liberation

Never ever claim to support the poor if you get butthurt at the idea that poor people can now access tools to create beautiful art. And if your first thought is to take shots at me for claiming that “Ai art can be beautiful”, you’re part of the problem!!!

FractalHQ · a year ago
When the “tools” are built from countless lifetimes of blood sweat and tears dedicated to mastery and bottled by mega corps to siphon all of the value and sell it back to the people by laundering their intellectual property, your angle falls flat. The “poor” can’t eat art. They used to be able to sell their art to buy food. Now 5 tech bros are seizing all of that food money, artists are starving, humanity is being regurgitated into slop, and you’re cheerleading for molloch.

100% this. For a C++ or Rust programmer this reads so weird.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not hating on JS here, and I have lots of beef with C++, but I fully agree with your take that TS barely scratches the surface of the statically typed world.

FractalHQ · a year ago
This isn’t true, is it? I’ve only ever heard that TypeScript has one of the most advanced type systems of any mainstream language.. but I don’t have enough experience with other languages to know how true that is.

I'm spoiled by the "search the menu" thing in vscode, intellij and devtools. I wanted that in Photopea today because I couldn't find the darn paint bucket tool. If everything had built in AI (which seems to be happening whether it's good or bad) I could probably just say or type "paint bucket" which I guess is only marginally better than a fuzzy search.. but the iterative process of AIs where you can kind of lazily ask it for things and then correct it when it's wrong sure is nice.
FractalHQ · a year ago
MacOS has this by default on every app because it indexes all menu actions and makes them accessible via `cmd + shift + ?`.
