Looks like Cloudflare are still sending out the airport locations and hit status on the response headers. Maybe I'm missing something but it seems like if you had a large VPN network you could run a distributed query to figure out which edge nodes have cached the url.

Why can't the decentralized social media be made? What are the technical obstacles for this? Why cant it run in your browser, users could store their content on their own devices and share it P2P. Noone knows whats being shared, no problems with censorships, regulations, laws...
EthicalSimilar · 7 months ago
You can do that, except nobody would use it.

Would it be reasonable to increase the length of the runway (or longer non-blocking area) based on these incidents, even if they are extremely rare.

Did you look into Scrypted? It is OSS. With HomeKit (which is how I use it) it is also E2EE. I’m not sure if their app is E2EE though, I only use HomeKit.

It’s pretty good and has an extensive ecosystem. The dev can be a bit… feisty though.

It’s very performant and easy to setup. I don’t use the NVR features as I already have an NVR, I essentially just use it for HomeKit integration of my cameras + doorbell.

Sometimes they work great and sometimes.. not so great. They definitely need some work.

I haven’t found them particularly useful but I also don’t get bombarded with notifications.

I used to be able to lucid dream quite regularly. I had a friend tell me that looking at your hands throughout the day would help as when you looked at them in your dreams you would realize it.

Now as I’ve grown older I don’t even dream anymore (I suspect due to THC use) but even on nights where I go to bed stone cold sober - nothing happens. I don’t dream. Does anybody else find themselves lacking the ability to dream at all?

I don’t mind it because while I do miss lucid dreaming and pleasant dreams, I completely miss out on the ability to have a nightmare.

Is it a case of not dreaming, or rather not remembering the dreams?

If you're so focused on privacy why don't you just use Linux? With Linux you'll actually get real privacy and you'll really truly own the system.

Apple takes a 30% tax on all applications running on their mobile devices. Just let that sink in. We are so incredibly lucky that never happened to PC.

As much as anyone can say otherwise, running Linux isn’t just a breeze. You will run into issues at some point, you will possibly have to make certain sacrifices regarding software or other choices. Yes it has gotten so much better over the past few years but I want my time spent on my work, not toying with the OS.

Another big selling point of Apple is the hardware. Their hardware and software are integrated so seamlessly. Things just work, and they work well. 99% of the time - there’s always edge cases.

There’s solutions to running Linux distros on some Apple hardware but again you have to make sacrifices.

EthicalSimilar commented on Apple Shares Full iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro Repair Manuals   macrumors.com/2024/09/20/... · Posted by u/stalfosknight

> Compared to prior iPhone models, the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus are easier to repair. Apple is using an electric battery removal process, and the steps for accessing a battery to replace it are outlined in a separate support document <https://support.apple.com/en-us/120642>. Per Apple's instructions, a 9-volt battery and 9-volt battery clips can be applied to the iPhone 16 battery to remove the adhesive that holds it in place.

"Easier" is relative I guess:

Here’s every tool you’ll need to replace the iPhone 16’s battery https://9to5mac.com/2024/09/20/heres-every-tool-youll-need-t...

* 9-volt battery

* 9-volt battery clips (923-10726)

* Battery press (923-02657)

* Ethanol wipes or isopropyl alcohol (IPA) wipes

* Nylon probe (black stick) (922-5065) or suction cup

* Safety glasses with side shields

* Sand

* Sand container

By contrast, the Treo 650 battery replacement took a few seconds and zero tools.

This is a great point! When I'm using AirPlay, that feature is really useful. I'm more often using Spotify Connect though, where I'm limited to either using the physical volume buttons on my phone, the small slider in the desktop app, or the slider that's many clicks in to the Spotify mobile app.

In reality though, this project is more about the fun of it than about it being a really pressing need.

EthicalSimilar · a year ago
It also works when using Spotify Connect on your iOS device. If you can use your volume buttons to control it you can also adjust it with the slider in the control centre.
