One 8 y/o one 3y/o This year:

- Transformer robots

- Origami book & papers

- Some ski gear

- Metal detector

- Climbing harness & slings etc (small climbing frame in the grander they like to attach to and just kinda swing about)

- Kids Cookbook

Past Years Winners:

- Magnatiles - both have loved these, one of the most used toys and reasonably open-ended

- Diablo - the circus toy thing

- Modu - https://modutoy.com

- Potions kit - just a bunch of small pots etc with random glitter and what not in them. pretty good one for an upcycling project

- Playdough - classic for a reason, also DIY'able Little printer roll instant print camera

Our Magna tiles get so much use. I should really buy the kids some more.

And that Modu stuff looks so cool, I’ve never seen that before.

5 year old - laser tag, brain rot toys 8 year old - roller skates, make up/face paint

And just random stocking stuffers / books, etc.

One neat thing we found was a frog dissection toy - https://www.thewarehouse.co.nz/p/slimy-dissect-mini-frog-wit...

ElCapitanMarkla commented on Indie game developers have a new sales pitch: being 'AI free'   theverge.com/entertainmen... · Posted by u/01-_-

To be fair I think if there is any kinda okay use of GenAI is being able to get some images and such without needing the money to hire an artist.

Maybe that allows for way more niche games.

In other words: It's the whole package. If I get something unique, and the dev used some "AI" for translation or to make some avatar image for a character I am happy this game is allowed to exist.

If I see a AAA studio putting out the hundredth iteration of the same old game, of some franchise that used to be good and interesting in the 90s and then doesn't even bring actually new art to the table it's a huge disappointment.

But here we are. EA cannot even manage to fix their basic bugs (like players running into nets or a new kickoff for less than a second) after a dozen of new expensive releases.

Non-indie games have largely been a complete farce for decades now.

Also AI could also generate some code to enable the artists to make their own unique games. There will be loads of creative types out there who can unlock some neat concepts with AI support

If my memory is not faulty it was even able to stream movies from multi volume rar files over SAMBA which felt like magic. IYKYK

Yeah that part was amazing. It was 2006, I'd softmoded the Xbox with the Splinter Cell hack. I had 2MBs ADSL capped @ 10GB for international data but unlimited national. I was in a NZ only private tracker to take advantage of that and then the icing on the cake, streaming the multi volume rar files straight to the TV. It really was magic.

Growing up, you never did a sport you weren't really interested in? A hobby? A academic activity?

That is pretty common, you can find plenty of literature on it.

But your condescending comment is noted.

ElCapitanMarkla · 3 months ago
That wasn't a condescending comment.

I had a similar script a few years ago when I refused to give up my aging Macbook Air and built a server to host my dev env. I had an rsync command that would sync the differences from my local machine up to the remote box. It was surprisingly quick considering the size of the projects.

Yeah, pretty common to force children to do things until they are of self-volition age, some reach it very late in life, some very early.

Serious question here, are you all good? Your responses here sound like you’ve been through something.

Fantastic, my kids are going to love this.

Seconding the call for a video.

Also the instructions to remove the quarantine attr don't work.

xattr -cr ~/Downloads/FartScrollLid.app 11:12:20

option -r not recognized

edit: that should be `xattr -d FartScrollLid.app`

While driving through upstate New York on a camping trip I found a maple syrup shop run on the honor system. Leave the money in an unlocked box. It was shocking. I bought a gallon.

We have quite a few road side stalls like this around where I live in NZ, Honey, eggs, swedes are a common one. You hear of the odd theft from them every now and then but for the most part it seems to work well.
