I've been searching for dumb phones these last weeks to avoid using my phone too much. But it comes with issues:

- my bank requires a smartphone

- whatsapp desktop requires a smartphone too

This smartphone could be an alternative: no videos, you can still use third party applications, perfect for reading.

Thank you for sharing!

On Whatsapp web you can now log in with your phone number via a 2fac text, no camera required.

One has to be a little careful with designing courses like this. They are most likely to be of interest to people who already know, at least to some extent, both (i) calculus and (ii) programming. That is, the (presumable) target audience — those who are learning either of these subjects — is not really ready to take in such a class.

Anecdotally, my personal attempts at incorporating only slightly exotic CASes (Maxima or Sagemath) into calculus courses were met with tepid response at best. Part of the issue was, I believe, that freshmen are rarely interested in setting up software for a non-CS course.

That being said, for slightly higher-level classes it can work quite well as an optional component — I've had really good results with Python projects in an ODE course. Python not being a niche language certainly helped, too.

As a self taught programmer who never got farther than algebra, this looks awesome to me and I may be that small target audience haha.

I would say state actors, not billionaires have access to tools (TikTok) that are used to disrupt the fabric of Western societies. There is a reason why some social media tools are banned in China, and Iran - because they are actively used for psychological warfare (by China, Iran). Despite the article talking about China as well, it's just a cross-pollination of ideas across continents(they are getting the taste of their own poison).

I used to believe this is all tinfoil wackos ideas, but the last 6 months opened my eyes.

Such attacks are possible because ISPs do not want to adopt a protocol that would allow any host to send a special packet to block malicious traffic on the upstream provider or even at the source network. In this case networks like Cloudflare would become unnecessary.
Egrodo · 2 years ago
If it becomes this easy to block traffic couldn't malicious applications really mess up a user by spamming out reject packets for common IP?

Not sure how new this is but very cool that users can host a node simply by toggling an iframe or installing a browser extension. I wonder if these methods have much lower bandwidth limitations than the CLI version

Were you aware of YC before attending Lambda (ie, did the association lend credibility to Lambda) or did you find YC after attending?

Egrodo · 3 years ago
Not OP but I also attended a part time Lambda School cohort around 5 years ago and the YC association was huge for me.

New rendering engine? Or yet-another-Chrom(e/ium)-clone with a different UI? Honestly, even the latter might be better if it's closer to what older browsers had, with a lot of options to configure and not the dumbed-down useless-UI trend that seems to be gradually infecting everything. That's one of the reasons I use Firefox, although it seems to be slowly going down the same path too.

Have you checked out Vivaldi? Incredibly customizable UI over Chromium, if you do make the switch from FF.
