Ecstatify commented on Ask HN: What are you working on? (February 2026)    · Posted by u/david927

Working on https://allscreenshots.com - a screenshot API for developers.

I got frustrated with existing screenshot services choking on cookie banners, rendering half-loaded pages, and serving bloated images. So my co-founder and I built one that auto-dismisses cookie consent dialogs using Playwright heuristics, serves AVIF-first from Cloudflare R2, and supports geo-distributed rendering so you can capture pages as they'd appear from different regions.

Spring Boot + React + PostgreSQL. Bootstrapped after selling a previous ecommerce SaaS.

Currently documenting the whole build in a 30-day series on the blog if anyone's into that sort of thing.

Seems really polished, who’s the target market for this product? Developers?

You have link to the blog series?

Honestly, it sounds like the usual clichéd advice.

I was expecting something more practical, like doing an interview every six months or something along those lines.

Supervisors and HR just smile and nod.

Maybe if he had a better relationship with his manager, he would’ve realised sooner that he was just wasting his time.

Documentation is like an untested disaster recovery plan.

When a major issue happens, you’ll be the one called.

You should delegate or automate the task and remove it from your workload, especially if it carries high risk.

I’d actually love to read the dark arts equivalent of this article.

The new UI is incredibly disappointing, it looks like an old Android theme from 2005.

This is the only power they have left.

The UK government has lost control of what happen in the physical world on their own island so now the bureaucrats play a fantasy game where they are gonna enforce their rules and dominion in their former colonies or the digital world.

These AI-focused Twitter threads feel like they’re just recycling the same talking points for likes and retweets. When AI systems make mistakes, it doesn’t make sense to assign blame the way we would with human errors - they’re tools operating within their programming constraints, not autonomous agents making conscious choices.

Competition in the free market is not colonialism. The capitalistic marketplace is meant to involve disruption. That's the entire point: new companies come along and out-compete and out-innovate older companies and business models. The consumer wins. This is not the same as invading countries and subjugating the inhabitants, who have a human right to a peaceful life. No business in a capitalistic marketplace has a "right" to continue enjoying profits and resist innovation.

What new companies? Google is a monopoly, along with most other major tech platforms. When a handful of corporations control entire market sectors and actively acquire or crush potential competitors, that's not free market competition, that's market consolidation that prevents the very disruption you're describing. The "creative destruction" of capitalism requires actual competition to exist, not just the theoretical possibility of it.

What? Nobody is retaining AI people by giving them UX work. These are very different skills.

I don’t really believe the narrative that this is the C-team running things now. A complete redesign like this would require approval from numerous executive stakeholders. My guess is that it’s connected to the Apple Vision project - possibly they’re working on a new device at a more consumer-friendly price point.

I don't see his post as an attempt to self-promote as some commenters here have made. To what purpose? He's already known to most adults, already rich beyond anyone could possibly dream to be. And it sounds like from the post that he already had this path planned albeit several decades after his death.

I think accelerating that timeline is a good thing as I think he will be better than anyone who came after to direct how the funds as applied.

It looks like he’s been focused on building his public image over the past few years, perhaps aiming for a Nobel Prize.
