Valve gets away with murder for some reason even though the "gAMeR" community loves to get the pitchforks out for several minor controversies per month.

Gotta be a sunk cost thing right?

How much of the archive is affected? Could be a targeted effort to tamper with historical records.

If they wanted to do that they'd probably not try to draw this much attention.

I found this reddit thread from /r/DataHoarder about backing up the internet archive particularly interesting, given the circumstances

Suppose we each backed up sites we cared about rather than trying to mirror the whole thing...

A pulled an old friends website down from Internet Archive.

He's moved on the next stage, but I was glad I was able to put his site back up.

It'll be a shame if IA goes down permanently, but we need a decentralized solution anyway.

Having a single mega organization in charge of our collective heritage isn't a good idea.

I keep wanting to do this for old sites, make like a personal mini IA. Besides just using wget or curl, any tips for pulling down useable complete websites from IA?

Once Sam Altman has consolidated all the power (think: top-10 richest person in the world and control over AGI v0) we’ll find out what he actually wants. And we will hate it.

Not for shaders while the game is running? https://github.com/godotengine/godot-proposals/issues/5269

For testing shaders you can use the editor, at least.

Yes or no, do you conceed that for almost everyone, none of what you said matters, and almost everyone can use llama 3 for their use case, and that basically nobody is going to have to worry about being sued, other than maybe like Google, or equivalent?

You are using all these scary words without saying the obvious, which is that for almost everyone, none of that matters.

EamonnMR · a year ago
Would you then say that in general Open Source doesn't matter for almost everyone? Most people running Linux aren't serving 700 million customers or operating military killbots with it after all.

If you really want to save the content for yourself, use something like https://archivebox.io/

I've been running a local instance for a few years now and download/save tech articles all time. I can search and find them as needed.

EamonnMR · 2 years ago
I'm very interested in something like archive box but:

* Can also download Internet Archive snapshots

* Suitable for (read only) exposure to the open Internet, or saves sites as static content that you could host easily by slapping it into an Nginx or Apache directory.

Is it the tool for the job?
