When I worked there many decades ago, I had pressure and saw people get rewards for patenting everything you could. Seems like things haven't changed.

About 10 years ago I was working on a net-new COBOL compiler for z/OS. There was a huge demand from banks especially for this.

They don't always hit the mark but I sort of miss the times when Apple would innovate more boldly with their devices.

Apple Intelligence isn't it - it's just playing catch-up with a market that tries to slap AI onto everything it can think of.

The hardware upgrades are always nice but there's nothing 'out there' like a touch bar or even a 'dynamic island'. Just more safe iterations.

The last time they "innovated" on macbooks we got a touch bar (ignoring M chips). I'm good with incremental improvements if we can avoid those gigantic blunders.

I love seeing the codegen output, makes it easy to understand the issue, but claiming that it's faster or slower without actual benchmarks is a bit disappointing.

Hotline was an amazing experience when I was younger. Really taught me a lot about devops and about ISPs.

Just call it ECMAScript and forget about "Java".

"JavaScript" was not a good choice of name to begin with. The original JavaScript did not have much in common with Java.

I remember briefly calling it DHTML. But that was ages ago.
