I think this is like the 7th or 8th WhatsApp MCP implementation.

I really have zero understanding why people think this is something crazy. It’s not. It’s importing the official MCP packages and wrapping basic API methods with an MCP tool decorator.

You can even ask Claude or ChatGPT to make your MCP tools for you and they will write this same code in 1 minute.

I can’t wait until the community realizes that MCP servers are literally just regular methods with a one line decorator and these posts just get downvoted for being incredibly low effort.

It’s basically the same as upvoting someone saying “hey guys, I wrote a method which connects to the WhatsApp API”, that’s it, really.

You know why: MCPs are still a hot topic, and WhatsApp is ubiquitous (unfortunately).

Cool work, but I'm more fascinated by your claim "99% of your life is stored in WhatsApp...".

Not even remotely true for me even if it would encompass all messaging apps I use. I guess I'm just an old introvert, but it makes me wonder how life looks like for those for whom it is true.

The way to absolute dominance of WhatsApp with the Normies has't been sufficiently analyzed, I reckon. Somehow, WhatsApp managed to become extremely popular and heavily used by people who have trouble switching on a desktop pc. Even senior citizens have no trouble using it.

Is it because they have a high motivation to use it? The UI / UX of WhatsApp surely isn't great, I'd even say it's quite bad. Where am I wrong? What am I not seeing?

Have you looked into how much of DF was about Apple and how much was about Donald Trump during the affected time periods? It seems that you write about tech a lot less and politics a lot more. Which is fine, it's your blog! But don't expect tech enthusiasts to automatically be interested in your opinion on immigration or whatever.

This touches on the actual reason, IMHO. A significant number of HN users is obviously leaning towards supporting the cult, and of course do the part which cult members are supposed to do - scour the internet for inconvenient speech and then downvote, barricade, and whine.

If someone is putting their thumbs on the scale to suppress Gruber’s articles after he posted that Palestinian civilians being subject to war crimes, denied food, water and electricity was "fucking around and finding out"… well good honestly. Suppress this genocide apologist.

What genocide?

I like this as a European person. And because Americans are screeching about it.

That’s a problem with lazydocker, not ghostty.

Maybe contribute to https://github.com/jesseduffield/lazydocker/issues/610 ?

CarlitosHighway · 8 months ago
Do you have anything to back up this claim? Because it only crashes in Ghostty, and no other terminal emu I tried it in.

Anyway, not my problem, I will just wait until it's fixed and if not, then I'll use one of the gazillion other ones that work 100%.

> I saw tradeoffs that I didn't like. I saw features that I wanted. I saw performance that I could improve. I saw stagnation. There are many fantastic terminals out there and you should use them if they work for you. But I wanted something different and thought maybe others did too.

This motivation is pretty clearly stated in the article.

Some people use "fancy TUIs" (the famous editors vim and emacs surely count) and if you don't, feel free to ignore this new option.

CarlitosHighway · 8 months ago
Unfortunately, launching a fancy TUI like lazydocker inside a fresh install of Ghostty will make the TUI exit with an error, when the same TUI runs just fine on iTerm, alacritty, etc.

Love this in theory but the first time user experience could be improved:

$ brew install ghostty

Launch it, don't configure anything, in the new terminal window then enter:

$ lazydocker

Response: 2024/12/28 09:04:42 An error occurred! Please create an issue at https://github.com/jesseduffield/lazydocker/issues

*exec.ExitError exit status 1 /home/runner/work/lazydocker/lazydocker/main.go:96 (0x9397d7) /opt/hostedtoolcache/go/1.21.13/x64/src/runtime/internal/atomic/types.go:194 (0x43bc1b) /opt/hostedtoolcache/go/1.21.13/x64/src/runtime/asm_amd64.s:1650 (0x46b9e1)

Which does not happen with fresh out of the box Mac Terminals, iTerm.

Probably it would be good to have less specific default options for people who just want to try it out before starting to configure it.
