BearGrass commented on Ask HN: Why do some medicines come as pills and others as capsules?    · Posted by u/litoE

Capsules are more expensive and can’t be easily split by patients so pills are generally preferred by manufacturers. Reasons to use capsules:

  - they protect the medicine better from light and moisture and oxygen than tablets
  - powder in capsules dissolves faster, more evenly and thus the dose can be frontloaded instead of spread out
  - beads in capsules can be coated to control dosage rates or deliver one medication before another. I.e. if the active drug irritates the stomach a coating can counteract that or keep it from dissolving until it reaches the intestines. Extended release medications usually use these coatings to slow down absorption
  - capsules can carry multiple physically separated chemicals that are too reactive to be allowed to touch
  - the binders in the pill interfere with the medication
  - capsules can mask the taste better

I have worked on network-related projects. OSC is a very interesting device, and using it flexibly might lead to some good solutions.

I like inserting art, like the header to https://simonsarris.com

A village pops up. There is no point to it. You can click to make more houses. You can right-click to drag things around. When I touch it again I think I'll add a sun and moon that track the time of day for wherever the user is located. Actually the footer has art too, each page has a semi-randomly assigned illustration from public-domain (old) art that I've found. Like drawings from James McNeill Whistler, for instance. I use his illustrations in 'useful' websites too.

Actually, I experimented with the sun/moon a few years ago, in this version: https://simonsarris.github.io/simeville/

If you left-click drag the sun downwards, you'll see the moon come up. That one is open source, but the code is quite slapdash compared to the new one. Also you have to click ITS TIME TO BUILD to get the buildings.

In general I think websites could be a lot more pretty (gorgeous even), silly, interesting, and a lot less corporate chic than they currently are.

Your website is very cute. I live on a certain floor of a building, and although the content of the site has no meaning to me, I kept looking at it for a long time, as if I were reading a novel.

Thank you for sharing.

I am using a simple Jekyll theme minimal-mistakes[0] which I customized to suit my needs.

I'm hosting my blog[1] on GitHub Pages, the repo[2] is public so you can take a look and fork it if you find it interesting.

The setup is really simple, straightforward, and no-cost.

My lack of knowledge has led me to only have heard of WordPress, but it feels cumbersome to operate, so I've been writing some 'draft' blogs locally. Thank you for letting me know about this solution; I've already started my first blog.
BearGrass commented on Ask HN: Is there any point teaching kids to code?    · Posted by u/billyjobob

I think teaching for interested children is very valuable. It is a way of looking at the world with rational thinking. If it is to learn a trade early and find a job, it is of little value. chartGPT will teach children what they need technology (especially introduction to programming)
