One of the most absurd consequences of CarPlay is the USB car ports are often 1 amp. So my phone dies faster. Combined with Apple forcing you to use Apple Maps, makes me cynical of basic technology. This is partly what makes it more distracting.

You bought a product from a company known to lock people into their services then complain about this.

Was it the constant commercials that sold you? The fruit logo?

It is terrifying how fast reasonable people have jumped on board with China-level lockdown policies that will decimate life-as-we-know-it after they end.

I've been reading every whitepaper and journal publication I can find on this disease.

The picture that I'm seeing is that this disease is both more infectious (higher R0) and less deadly than previously thought.

In light of those facts I am fairly convinced the lockdowns and resulting economic impacts will be worse than just isolating the most vulnerable and letting the rest of the population go about their business.

https://www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/2020.02.12.20022434v... (Suggests the R0 is much higher and IFR much lower than reported)

https://www.epicentro.iss.it/coronavirus/bollettino/Report-C... (shows that the people dying are very old and very sick already. Also given the fact that part of the population is so impacted strongly suggests the disease is much more widespread)

Also, all of the celebrities, politicians and athletes that are testing positive are proof, in my opinion, of how wide this has gone.

I'm with you.

We will all catch this unless we stay locked up until the vaccine comes.

So, expect everyone to catch it.

How do you think medical education works? Because it's basically exactly this.
76543210 · 6 years ago
No. there is an extra 4+ years of classes.

Yeah, I'm personally not too concerned with the "stuff" end of things. This is America; in spite of rhetoric to the contrary, we remain a manufacturing powerhouse. Apply enough money and we'll get whatever "stuff" we need on pretty short order.

I think the big problem is medical technicians and doctors. My feeling is that we should be focusing on training up medical people on a massive scale, as that's something that the USA is notoriously bad at. Perhaps the military could provide medical technicians the fastest? lots of healthy young people who are trained in the use of serious PPE? (I wonder how the procedures differ between nuclear, chemical and biological threats like these?)

People talk about beds... but the problem isn't physical beds. I could make you a physical bed. the problem is doctor and medical technician labor to make the bed useful.

Just an idea (that would never happen)-

Why not make it like Engineering?

You do your 4 year undergrad and at your first job, no one trusts you. Your supervisor/senior engineer checks Everything you do. You are reserved for paperwork and unskilled manual labor which is also checked. After a few years (4) you get some Freedom, but still checked by your seniors. Anything important, even when you are a senior engineer goes through your Managers and directors.

I don't see why this system wouldn't work in medical. We build airbags and bridges. Both safety critical.

I would even say having 1 physician is more dangerous than having a team of Engineers with less Schooling.

Nah Apple takes advantage of their walled off system. They know they have users and changing to an alternative is too difficult.

It's a useless industry, it's a disposable luxury. I feel for the workers, but as a whole, less disposable luxuries sounds good for fiscal responsibility and productivity.

UBI is honestly the only solution here.

It has not worked for every test city that tried it. Why is this different?

This timing is really unfortunate. I work as a freelance software engineer and my assignment ended a month ago. I've been looking for a new assignment, but it looks like nobody is hiring right now. I'm preparing for burning through all my saving because I don't see it change easily in the next months :(

Same but due to bad sales. Mine is postponed until people go back to work.

Hopefully 9 months of mortgage is enough to survive this.
