Besides running on battery and ecosystem woes, why this over a apple homepod which is cheaper and has better engineering and sound?

initially i was thinking this was some groundbreaking technology that would somehow help with privacy via fancy audio engineering - but alas it seems like just a portable speaker with a cute design.

anyway, congrats on the launch of V2 - it's valid if it's a passion project and you had fun building it in any case, just curious about why anybody would choose this over the plethora of other portable speakers

is the killer feature here motion detection ? because that seems like it can also be accomplished via a third party motion sensor + Apple Home integration

Exactly. I used HomePods to solve this problem. Hey Siri, play my x playlist. Hey siri, stop.

An employee advocacy platform that helps companies amplify their brand reach and thought leadership through their employees’ social networks. It integrates with tools like Slack and Microsoft Teams, allowing marketing teams to easily share curated content that employees can like, comment on, or reshare without needing to leave their workspace or log into LinkedIn.

I’m working on SocialWeaver, an employee advocacy platform that helps businesses scale their marketing and reach by getting employees engaged with social content directly from Slack and Microsoft Teams.

I’m sure many of you were asked to engage with some product announcement, hiring post, or whatever on LinkedIn. With SocialWeaver, we remove all friction from that process by letting employees like, share, and comment directly within Slack and Teams. On top of the core use case, marketing teams also get analytics, employee leaderboards, content scheduling, etc.

UVA does this for households that make less $100K. Hopefully, they’ll follow suit and bump it to $200K as well.

It could see it as disingenuous, or a targeted message to those users still on those older x86 machines.

Exactly how I read it. I have an intel model, and the press release felt like a targeted ad.

> …but the reality is you're creating a company that should be valued (and eventually sell) for 7-15X Earnings - and you really should be looking at that increase in value vs your increase in profits.

Muslim here. I think this is completely immoral and I don’t want to ever participate in stock market if/when I found a company. I want my business to be valued with the actual value it provides to people (the amount they are willing to pay me for my products), not the hypothetical future money it may potentially provide to rich people who gamble with their money and the economy.

Yabood · 2 years ago
As a Muslim, I disagree. A business is more than the sum of its revenues. Marketing, research and development, relationship with clients, etc. are all part of the business valuation. If a buyer looks at some business and decides its worth 10x, then that's not haram as long as you're not deceiving them.

Apple could, and eventually did, pull off a competitor to Google Maps. It launched highly flawed and incomplete, which earned its bad reputation. But it’s quite good now IME, and I prefer it to GM most of the time.
Yabood · 2 years ago
I second this. I switched to Apple Maps earlier this year and never looked back. I find the UX, especially when driving in CarPlay mode to be superior to Google’s.

Iraqi here *facepalm* again it's not a spooky cyber attack, it's the stupid way they operate these screens, they use anydesk and teamviewer to control them, they're hooked to windows machines and often times they show the desktop and user/password is displayed on the big screen

Here is a real life pic by a friend https://imgur.com/a/g0LB9vt

I was raised in Baghdad, I can assure you the person who set this up knows better, but didn’t care enough or didn’t think other people would know what teamviewer is or both.
