Hi! I help startups with the UX/UI and web design of their products, including designs for new and existing web apps, websites and landing pages. My background as a full stack developer and startup founder lets me strike a balance between development effort, performance, usability and aesthetics while prioritising the business goals of your project.
---
The best live example of my work is Checkbot (https://www.checkbot.io/), a browser extension that tests websites for SEO, speed and performance problems. The entire project is my own work including coding the extension itself, UX/UI design, website design (the desktop homepage is optimised to load in 0.7s with only 0.3MB transferred), website copy, and posts on web best practices.

Email sw@seanw.org with a short description of your project and how you think I can help. I can get back to you within one working day to arrange a call to discuss a quote. I generally aim for fixed price quotes when projects have self-contained stages.
I do electronics, end to end (design from idea, part selection, layout, prototyping, testing, enclosure design). Lately I've been working mainly on adapting existing designs to the new reality of part shortages. If you have a device that you can't produce due to part shortages I might be able to help you redesign it for the current availability situation. Of course I'm also more than happy to help with new devices.
I won't work on weapons, advertising, cryptocurrencies or automotive (for motivation on the latter, see my analysis on the reason for the component crisis here https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=26931498 )
In the past, I've:
- Saved a company $500k a year in CI infrastructure costs.
- Worked with several hundred engineer organizations to migrate from Jenkins to GitHub Actions.
- Introduced configuration as code and GitOps best practices to teams.
- Built dynamic review environments triggered on a pull request.
I'm available to:
- Reduce the costs of your CI infrastructure so that you can free up your infrastructure budget.
- Help you migrate from Jenkins to a more modern CI platform, like GitHub Actions, to reduce operational overhead and iterate faster.
- Help your team evaluate emerging technologies and processes. CircleCI or GitHub Actions? Kubernetes or Nomad? GitOps or ChatOps? How do you know what's likely going to be a fad and what's not? I can help your team avoid costly mistakes when adopting new tools and processes.
- Scale your DevOps processes. Should your company adopt full-stack teams that own the entire delivery pipeline, or should a specialized team of internal experts own the pipelines? These are the questions I can help you answer so that you can decide on the right trade-offs that make sense for your company as it scales to avoid future expensive migrations.
- Do implementation work. Maybe you're a small team that doesn't have enough DevOps resources. I can augment your team, dive in, and start delivering fast. I'm well-versed in terraform, Kubernetes, docker, etc. I can help you build repeatable pipelines, documentation and provide a smooth hand-off to your internal team.
- Need something else? Please don't hesitate to reach out.
I've written about GitHub Actions and it was on the front page recently: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=28460342

I'm a full-stack developer and have worked on multiple domains for the last ten years, including:
- fintech (FX / FI and Structured Products) - realtime (co-founded a startup around a realtime server called deepstream.io) - IoT - Elderly care / Matching platforms (marta.de)
Recently (2021) have spent my time between my own product enjamon.com (almost at launch stage), working part-time for marta.de where I built their backend office, matching algorithm and two client facing apps in 5 languages (as the sole developer + intern) and some open-source projects around deployment strategies and postgres/typescript node interfaces (https://github.com/vramework/schemats / https://vramework.io/).
Currently looking for a job where I can work part-time (20 hours a week) or for on-demand tasks (like optimising APIs, CI pipelines, AWS infrastructure / ReactJS Apps / integrating realtime / etc).

We have extensive experience in building applications from design, through implementation and ongoing management. We have very happy clients over the last 10 years and can put you in touch with them. Because we have worked together as a team for 10+ years we are extremely efficient - we pride ourselves on that along with being predictable and responsive. We can plug into an existing team to fill holes (design, tech) or can work as a design/developer team to get built what you need from soup to nuts. Experience in building healthcare applications, analytics pipelines, retail applications, financial apps, custom CMS, ecommerce front ends, phone apps, real estate, high throughput message delivery!
