“Remote technical support” is a very broad category.

Are MSP’s now non-compliant, I wonder…

When the AI generated content outnumbers human content 10,000 to 1, and the quality is almost ridiculously varied and sometimes incredible, and no functional system can sustainably authenticate humans without being overrun by bots…

Then the record from that point forward and forever hence will be one of AI, not one of humanity.

Or…art and literature enter a new two-tiered era with artistic and literary works made by humans, with other humans as witnesses to some or all of the process, becoming extreme-premium-items alongside AI-generated works, which are likely to become the fare of mainstream society, if the current wave continues unabated.

The decisions about "is this bank adequately capitalized to serve its depositors" should be made by the regulators, not by the market. We know what it takes to run a bank safely, and its really easy to both quantify and test. This is how the "too big to fail" banks are run today. No one talks about the moral hazard of elevators (make sure you inspect it before you get on) or airplanes (make sure you do your own pre flight check) we trust that the regulators have set up processes that make this infrastructure safe for the public to use. Even with a deposit guarantee, a poorly run bank can still be closed by regulators, a bank run doesn't need to happen for a bank to be shut down, just like an elevator accident doesn't need to happen to decertify an elevator in a building.

This has existed in tech for a long time. We call it the “Pet Project”.

A little life story:

I had commercial success in art at the humble age of 23. Not only were my paintings respected and collected by accomplished and wealthy individuals, they formed commissions for years to come. My success was the result of an obsession with craftsmanship and clever word-of-mouth marketing.

Suddenly, one day after insisting on meeting the deadline of the expensive commission, I had a headache and my nose was bleeding. Fortunately, it turned out to be a minimal problem as a result of stress.

I stopped painting for a month and went to rest in the mountains. There I discovered that, influenced by success and the pursuit of perfection, I had lost the most valuable of my talents.

To enjoy the process.

I then vowed to no longer let the need for material success and validation come before my need to express myself visually and feel enjoyment of the freedom to change my artistic style or experiment without direction.

I returned the prepaid orders, apologized for the disappointment I was causing, and moved on.

Not only that, but I realized that I would have to work another job if I wanted to keep the purity of the process for myself.

I began in graphic design, moved to web design and started a web solutions company.

And when my friends ask me to this day: How could you turn your back on your successful art career?

I answer them:

I don't paint for you. I paint for myself. It's part of my life. A place where there are no compromises, no demands, no expectations, no projections, no assessments, no tasks, no metrics, no applause and no glory.

A place where I am happy.

What you said at the end deeply resonated with me. I made a similar decision regarding music years ago and since giving up all aspirations of commercial success from music, the quality of what I am able to create has blossomed - and then tanks again the moment I so much as THINK of making a track to put up for sale.

So I came to the similar conclusion of playing only for myself and my family, and I am much happier with music as a result.

I recommend to anyone working on talent-development to try, the next time inspiration strikes, creating your next piece of art for an audience of one (Self) and see what happens. The results may surprise you.

If one works at Walmart, for example, one does not get to opt out of being filmed by the employer within the workplace.

For police, the neighborhood is the workplace, and the taxpaying citizen is the “Employer” of the police.

The logic which applies for one, should apply for the other.

All I can say is that it must take alot of confidence, for lack of a better term, to look at what time the sun goes down and to decide that you are going to change that.

A lot of performance degradations are driven by external factors; increase in the prevalence of JavaScript, a larger variety of web features, higher resolution images, higher resolution video, new video codecs, new image formats, advertising etc. Some degradations are driven by fundamental physical things, for example batteries and storage devices have physical degradation. So you have to be careful how you define things.

Alot. But not all.

Every CPU cycle used by software, including an Operating System, depletes a limited pool of immediate resources.

If the same device and functionality I enjoy have not changed, then the room for concern arises.

Polyphasic sleep seems to be the natural sleep-cycle of humanity, as proven through natural circadian rhythms.

Sleeping for 8+ hours at one time, on a regular basis, may just not be natural for a significant percentage of humanity.

Find a non-technical hobby and go so fully into that (visibly) that you become a magnet for others just getting into the hobby.

Being there is like living midway down a river. Just stay there and “they” will come.
