z0mghii commented on Pebble Production: February Update   repebble.com/blog/februar... · Posted by u/smig0

I wish someone would take all the Fitness sensors of the Apple Watch, and put it in something with a simple e-ink display like these Pebble devices. I don’t care about apps, I just want a thing that measures my heart rate, notifies me if I get a call or text, has more than a couple days of battery life, and that’s it.

Where in Europe?

Asking coz I just did a quick comparison and it seems to depend but for comparison I have a really old AMD Athlon "e" processor (like literally September 2009 is when it came out according to some quick Google search, tho I probably bought it a few months later than that but still ...) that runs at ~45W TDP. In idle conditions, it typically consumes around 10 to 15 watts (internet wisdom, not kill-a-watt-wisdom).

Some napkin math says it would cost me about 40 years worth of amortization to replace this at my current power rates for this system. So why would I replace it? And even with some EU countries' power rates we seem to be at 5-10 years amortization upon replacement. I've been running this motherboard, CPU + RAM combo for ~15 years now it seems, replacing only the hard drives every ~3 years. And the tower it's in is about 25 years old.

Oh I forgot, I think I had to buy two new CR2032 batteries during those years (CMOS battery).

Now granted, this processor can basically do "nothing" in comparison to a current system I might buy. But I also don't need more for what it does.

Well if you have a system that does "nothing" it's hard to argue to replace it

I had working RCS on Android.

Turns out that random people can add you to groups, send spam and from what I can see you can do nothing to prevent it. I've disabled it.

So don't fret too much about not having it.

That's exactly why they are banning it on lineage and custom roms

What good would a bigger screen in my pocket be? My current phone is already uncomfortably large. It's not like my thumbs or palms are getting any bigger. I wish they made smaller Pixel phones, not bigger.
z0mghii · 3 years ago
Completely disagree with you on smaller pixel phones and that's ok

With these driverless cabs, will a person still be behind the wheel ? Or is no one there.

If not, what happens if an accident occurs and the cab keeps on driving due to a software bug ?

z0mghii · 3 years ago
There's already driverless cabs with no one behind the wheel running. Just not 24/7.

If some accident or bug occurs, they currently just stop completely until a person comes out

The Withings Steel HR seems to fit the bill perfectly - it has a screen for phone notifications, a step tracker and basic fitness function, and I regularly get two weeks and more of battery life out of mine. Only problem might be that you find it’s small circular screen too small - but I think that’s a feature of its minimalist aesthetic, not a bug.

So we should all adopt the Texas approach? Starve them out and abuse them, zero tolerance for petty theft and then what? Put them in prison and spend $30k+ a year in taxpayer money to keep them there until they die?

The new Apple TV 4K is a absolutely better than any of the high end android tv devices. I’ve been through them all (at considerable expense) and am now totally happy on the new apple tv
