Multiple un-named sources according to "VitalVegas.com". The vitalvegas.com about page says "One of the most baffling things about us is we’re just one person, Scott Roeben".

There's speculation elsewhere about a different house fire in Stratford. And I suspect many other house fires match the timeline.

There’s other sources on Twitter that have linked the article.

I looked at the Stratford case too. Doesn’t match. It was a 42 year old adult with 2 other adults and 2 teens. Hsieh is 46. https://patch.com/connecticut/stratford/man-severely-burned-...

And if you look at original TheDay house it’s a waterfront mansion...clearly owned by someone wealthy along with matching the timeline.

What about that article ties it to Hsieh? Other than being a recent house fire in Connecticut? It's certainly not the only one.

Because it matches the timeline and confirmed by multiple sources as him? https://twitter.com/vitalvegas/status/1332560969747238912?s=...

Before the pandemic, my household purchased items online for delivery perhaps 1x per week. Now, it's 2-3x per day. Clothing, LPs, pearl milk tea, ...

This is a behavioral change that is playing out worldwide. I'd certainly expect people to head back into retail stores once the virus is spent, but they will also likely continue purchasing a higher portion of overall shopping online, simply because they've been forced to learn that for many, the experience is satisfactory. This is something they may not have previously realized.

What I wonder is, where is the labor shift happening? Warehouses need management, delivery needs drivers, live customer service is still valuable for handling corner case complaints & returns. Can cashiers and floor salespersons and store managers take those jobs? Even a town of, say, 25,000 needs drivers to deliver. How much of the brick-n-mortar workforce can be absorbed in this phase of Internet Automates Everything?

I’ve honestly found online shopping to become increasingly anti-consumer. The absolute worst trend is what I would consider to be aggressive dynamic pricing, especially on Amazon.

In 2013, Tony invited me and other entrepreneurs to Vegas to give us his tour of what he and his team were doing to the Downtown area to revive it. It was amazing. But what really has always stuck with me is how fresh Tony’s ideas and thinking were. He looked past a ton of criticism and naysayers to see his new ideas come to life. Tony had the courage to try new thing after new thing. Often with great results. I’ve been back to the downtown area of Las Vegas, and the impact he’s had, whether it perfectly met his vision or not, has been remarkably improved. It’s 100 times safer. Employs a ton of people for non-gambling related things. And is a huge net improvement. I’m at a loss this morning. I didn’t know Tony very well, but the few convos I’ve had with him left me inspired to learn about something new or look at something differently. He was incredibly generous with his time and resources. I encourage all of you to go deep into the legacy Tony left behind. There’s important lessons and advice all over his work and life.

I’m a little disheartened by how much e-commerce has changed for the worst since the Zappos heydays, and how the most successful cos now often employ anti-consumer dark patterns and tactics to squeeze more revenue and profits all while limiting investment in customer service.

Wayfair at a $30B market cap comes to mind...dropships almost everything eg zero control of inventory and shipping times, dynamic pricing and fake discounts makes it difficult to know if you’re getting a good deal, customer service very inconsistent, returns not free, etc.

CVS can choose to set metrics and implement systems to discourage noticing that one person is pulling multiple scripts, for example.

Also remember that CVS is basically a monopoly wholesaler as well as a retailer — so they can play games at that level as well like stuffing the channel to favor the manufacturer that pays them more on the backend. Railroad trusts and standard oil did the same thing in the 1900s.

This is especially true in places where states have hobbled regulatory power. Little towns in West Virginia were dispensing more opioids than counties in other places. In places with more robust regulation, the pharmacists will lose their license.

The whole thing is disgusting and really illustrates how amoral and evil outfits like McKinsey are, and how their way of thinking is a more in your face vision of what many corporate leaders believe.

yeah I guess the wording of the story is confusing. I think it’s less “here’s a reward for literally killing people” and more “here’s a little something to soften the blow of an OD so that you continue to fill Oxycotin without judgement or heavy restrictions”

It doesn't prevent them from being sued and incurring costs as a result or having to spend resources complying with investigations.

ok, so a rebate is less “here’s a reward for OD’ing people” and more “we’ll soften the blow if you continue filling Oxy with no judgment if someone ends up dying” I guess
