Instagram shows me too many videos of "pick up artists" doing POV videos of their douchey interaction with girls, recorded on these. I wonder if it's too stealthy that the people being recorded don't notice. Slash, maybe they have release forms and the videos published are just the ones where they consented to being recorded (heh, as if the pick-up scene cares so great about consent...), and the failed ones are where they immediately say "Is that a camera? Fuck off!".

It does have a glowing LED: https://youtu.be/X95mWoTgjaE?t=105 but I feel like they're easy to hide with some black tape.

If you put black tape over the light, it will not allow you to turn on the camera, however, I believe someone found a hack that said if you started recording and then put black tape over the recording, it would allow you to continue to record, but only for 3 minute increments.

Longtime Spotify user here. I was part of the beta all the way back in 2013. I switched to Apple Music this year alongside an app that syncs the daily playlists with Apple Music.

I feel like as time goes on, the Apple Music playlist recommendations are getting better and better, but what kept me with Apple Music was actually the integrate with Sonos. I have the Arc, Sub and 2 Era 500s, and the spatial audio tracks are incredible. It reminds me of a time I used to just sit back and listen to music in my room as a kid, always discovering something new about a track that I never really hear.

This could be potentially really dangerous. Most Okta customers who would use support would be IT admins. This is a pretty good list to start social engineering to get more information from other customers just by calling or emailing IT members impersonating corporate end users.
xGrill commented on Ask HN: Is no one hiring junior devs?    · Posted by u/ianbutler

It’s a whole new world now for junior devs from what it was 10 years ago. The market is absolutely flooded with young CS grads, and self taught/bootcamp devs are facing unimaginable competition for entry level roles as a result.

We are still hiring plenty of juniors, but they are almost exclusively CS grads at this point. I honestly worry that software is going the way of law and finance, where credentialism is rampant.

xGrill · 3 years ago
On average, the CS grads we hire are so much further along in their journey than a bootcamp dev, yet the starting salary asks are about the same. I know there are some organizations that are a bit more desperate for anyone who has the capacity to learn to code, but we also have been exclusively hiring CS grads with far better results.

I think I understand the motivation for having a law prohibiting auto makers from selling straight to consumers. I’m sure it has more to do with money than ethics.

My question: Why autos, but not other consumer goods? Should I be restricted from buying an iPhone from an Apple store, rather than Greg’s Phone Emporium?

xGrill · 4 years ago
The biggest reason has to with cost. The average consumer does not need to take out a loan to buy a phone, but most do for cars. Cars are seen as a large investment that needs added protection, and instead of doing it at the auto manufacturer level, they added dealerships to serve as middlemen to bargain with auto makers on your behalf.
