Sounds like corporate jealousy on the part of the competitor. I wonder if the supreme court decision has set a precedent preventing future projects like this from going ahead. I don't think anyone would describe the land after 15 years as being "defiled" – quite the opposite.
1. Being a hacker means walking the world being constantly dissatisfied by all of the inefficiency you see on a daily basis and wanting to fix it.
2. Being a hacker means feeling like most of the software world is fraudulent and you are going to build a solution that actually works.
3. Being a hacker means building something because it is fun or cool.
Making money is a side effect of doing what you would do naturally because if you didn’t you would lose self respect.
I don’t think that’s hacker culture. It’s just the mainstream adoption of hacker culture, don’t let it replace the real thing in your mind. When lots and lots of people started playing candy crush on phones, it wasn’t gamer culture that changed, just the public perception of gaming.
There are still people out there who conform to the description you laid out. Are there lots and lots of them? No. It does seem to be a growing segment though.
So…how? Are you claiming they have oodles of logs and a perfect dork* to find suspicious JavaScript? If they had the latter wouldn’t they already be using it for security?
If you have some method that works do tell.
And what about all the other that have not been reported or may be exploited ?
From now on, every time someone is going to suggest arc browser, there will be another one to remind everyone of that. That's going to be very difficult to overcome when your software already doesn't have that big of a market share.
And who's going to take the bet that they'll find nothing? Not me.

Does anyone else understand the UI? It does not make sense to me: the giant "play" button blocking the middle of the display seems not to play, but to stop playing, replacing the moving-dot animation with colored streaks. Clicking it again causes the map to zoom out! Then I reloaded the page, and this time instead of trying to click the giant "play" button, I clicked "options", which did not bring up any options, but did move the "play" button out of the way to the corner.
