And as for the "Blumph!" comment, we still have yet to see Syria driven to the state of Libya so that's at least quite a few kids saved from getting shot right there.
Even this legislation, while misguided, is actually aimed at large businesses (mostly YouTube) while the beneficiaries (publishers and artists) are rather small, comparatively.
Think of it like the SOPA/PIPA/whatever fight: You manage to barely resist some bill from being enacted into law but then just a few months/years later another version of the same law is proposed.

The two languages have nothing in common beyond both being functional, and it kinda feels like someone posted a "Elixir and Elm" blog post in the early days and it all just snowballed arbitrarily from there.
The bad actions of the US and their allies does not excuse the same actions of Russia (or China, or any other country).
