as a former yc data integration startup employee... this is a very very very challenging business. i'd consider a different business if i were you. being "x but open source" isn't all it is cracked up to be. i dont really care enough to elaborate but please do feel free to tell me if i am wrong in five years.

Was looking for a demo of it on YouTube and fell over this hilarious one from a few months ago: https://youtu.be/coroLWOS7II?si=TeVghP_Zi0P9exQh . I’m sure it’s improved since :-)

There's a project [0] that parses Commoncrawl data for various schemas, it contains some interesting datasets.

That’s a really useful link, thanks for sharing. We’re building a scrapping service and only parsing rely on native html tags and open graph metadata, based on this link we should definitely take a step forward to parse JSON-LD as well.

every now and then I forget the order of `where` and `group by`, SQL syntax certainly has it's counter-intutive quirks.

I don't know why people single out China for this when the US has invaded, couped, bombed, and otherwise helped install right-wing military juntas globally. Where was self-determination for Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos?

China's priority is national security, and given the track record of western liberal democracies it is not unreasonable. As I recall we had a civil war the last time states tried seceding.

undefinedblog · 4 years ago
Good point, sometimes you need self-determination, sometimes Uncle Ben will help you determine.

>Extreme measures are likely doing more harm than good

You lost me here.

I hope we never do them in the USA, but the extreme measures taken by China absolutely halted the spread of the disease.

me getting lost too, op suggests China should just let loose?

As a percentage of GDP, the American military isn’t massive. It’s smaller than China’s. It’s smaller than India’s and only slightly bigger than little North Korea.

Anyone have any insight into what makes Chinese companies list on US vs Shanghai/hk exchanges?
undefinedblog · 7 years ago
One big reason to not listing on Shanghai is this market requires certain amount of profits which Lucking definitely not making enough.

Because I am the CTO of the company, and because the only interaction Tencent has with our company are during it's board meetings, which I am also a member of.

As a native Chinese speaker, I don't quite identify the genre of his work as "martial arts", it just should be "Wu Xia", which can not be translated flawlessly into English, like "Zen" or "Tao".
