It's clear that human companionship has shaped wolves into dogs.

A weird, perhaps silly question I've had for a while is: how have wolves shaped humans? Has human society in any way been affected by the structure of wolf packs? Did hairless monkeys form stronger tribes because of it?

I don't believe for a second that this deep interspecies friendship has been one-sided and hasn't brought psychological if not physical changes as much as the changes it's brought to wolves.

I read somewhere that he could have change human sleep. Human can have a deeper sleep knowing a guard will alert of danger.

Less a technical comment and more just a mind-blown comment, but I still can’t get over just how much data is compressed into and available in these downloadable models. Yesterday I was on a plane with no WiFi, but had gemma3:12b downloaded through Ollama. Was playing around with it and showing my kids, and we fired history questions at it, questions about recent video games, and some animal fact questions. It wasn’t perfect, but holy cow the breadth of information that is embedded in an 8.1 GB file is incredible! Lossy, sure, but a pretty amazing way of compressing all of human knowledge into something incredibly contained.

Same thing with image model. 4 Go stable diffusion model can draw and represent anything humanity know.

We took our kids to Disney World once.

When asked what their favorite part of the trip was, they responded..

The hot tub.

At the hotel.

My kids light up the most when I am fully engaged with them, fully present, entertaining their ideas, and asking questions.

Their favorite family trip so far? When we traveled to Arkansas to mine for crystals. AKA, dig in the dirt all day. They saw it on a YouTube video. They asked to go. So we obliged. I had never been to Arkansas. It's beautiful.

We stayed at a resort, Diamonds Old West Cabins, with a huge playground outside the cabins, archery, and a bubble party every evening at 6 pm.

They still talk about that trip.

I have travel entire Vietnam with people with kids. After seeing all the pagoda, park, cave, amusement park.. the best part of the travel for the kid was the pool at one hotel.

Chromecast used to be a great product. I had my gen 1 Chromecast for the last 10 years until recently when it got fried by this piece of crap TV I plugged it into.

It was exactly what I want in a device: Do one thing and do it well.

I decided to replace it with a new "Chromecast" device to find out that it bears next to no resemblance to the original. Today's Chromecasts are just wannabe Roku devices with actual casting being relegated to the status of unwanted stepchild. It forces you to sign in to a Google account, which the original did not force you to do. The original was a small stick that could be powered by the USB coming from the TV itself, whereas the new one is a larger white puck that needs a wall wort and can't be powered by a regular (non-C) USB connection. My final disappointment was that VLC fails to cast to it, even though it worked perfectly with the original.

All I want is a way to cast any video I want to my TV. This is apparently a huge ask in 2024. I looked up alternative devices on Amazon and they all seem inferior or have deal breakers like trying to Do Everything(TM), not supporting 4K, using some weird protocol, requiring a login, etc.

Still use my gen 1, the best 20$ spend in my life. I just have a annoying bug with youtube video that google won't fix.

Of all Google's confusing product duplications and overlapping function, "GPay" vs. "Google Pay" vs. "Google Wallet" was possibly the most confusing.

And Android Pay, I forgot my wallet one day, decide to use Android Pay but was block with : "Android Pay is replace by Google Pay, you need to update...". The shame of not been able to pay loose ma confident to use Google for this.

These illegal offshore "IPTV" operators are taking over the streaming market in my area. They have succeeded in marketing themselves to ordinary people via word of mouth and local resellers, and have apparently built enough of a reliable platform that they keep customers.

Some people think it's legit because they pay for the service and the decoder (firestick with a app) is sold in a real store.

There is not a lot of advantage to releasing this on Azure where you are directly competing with GPT-4, which will beat you on most tasks.
tomkaos · 2 years ago
You probably get a better control on what a happen with the data. I have the impression that GTP-4 is more of a black box and privacy problem.
