No knowledge of the business. But I think it's because of the underlying question that plagues Mozilla: How will that make money?
tessierashpool9 · 7 days ago
Google pays Mozilla, Mozilla has more money, Mozilla spends more money (especially in compensations to a bloated C-level), Mozilla needs more money, Google threatens with paying less, Mozilla will lube up and bend over.

I agree with the general sentiment of your comment, but not this:

> then maybe they've got an inkling of truth and they're worth writing about.

Ideas don't have to be infallible to be worth writing about. It's a slippery slope to not writing at all.

"inkling of truth" != "infallible"

If they keep their shit together and ride the surveillance wave then I don't see what should keep them from increasing 15fold by 2050. Their technology is not at all dependent on AGI, which is why I don't understand why they are always thrown in together with OpenAI et al.

One illuminating factor as to why: watch their CEO Alex Carp overdose on cocaine while on stage in public.

It seems like he is just trying to make a point with his moving around about being "annoying" - which is what he is talking about.

Enjoying the seduction while being aware of it and "accidentally" failing to provide any required info would be an interesting reverse UNO.

Although you would run the risk of being murdered. So there's that.

there always has to be a catch ... I'm up for it nonetheless!

Russia is known for doing exactly that (not a story). Looks like China is borrowing from the same playbook. China has also planted “sleeper” spies, who join companies at a junior level, then rise through the ranks, until they can access real stuff. Wouldn’t surprise me, if the US and Israel have done the same.

America has a bling problem; especially younger folks. It’s our Achilles heel. There are Americans who will sell out our nation for a pittance, just so they can strut around, looking cool.

Maybe I should try the same, join company at junior level, rise through the ranks until finally some Russian and Chinese spies come an seduce me.

Completely separate companies, both called Yamaha. One was spun off from the other, but I don't think there was ever a time when the same company sold both. (Basically, the musical instrument company was redirected to making war materiel during WWII. After the war, they didn't want to just throw away all of their new industrial capacity so they spun off a company to make use of all their new equipment and expertise and then went back to making instruments.)

The OG Yamaha produced a motorcycle in 1954, the YA-1. That success then led to the spin off.

(fun fact: the motorcycle Triumph and the undergarment Triumph are two entirely different companies that just happen to share the same name)

No, Greenlanders are working towards independence and gaining independence from the US seems much less likely than from Denmark. Additionally Greenlanders aren't looking with admiration at how the US has treated other indigenous peoples.
tessierashpool9 · 2 months ago
Are you a Greenlander? Or are you from mainland Denmark?

I mean, I think that's obvious. Ukraine obviously wouldn't contract anything essential from Russia, same goes for Denmark/Greenland and the US. You don't threaten countries you want to do business with.

It's also not very "between the lines" at all, the article finishes with:

> Binzer said the company will keep an open mind for future partnerships, but the priority remains clear. Greenland’s communication systems must stay under Greenlandic control.

Sovereignty is more important than ever, and governments are catching up to this fact.

> Ukraine obviously wouldn't contract anything essential from Russia

West-Ukraine wouldn't. East-Ukraine ... not so sure.
