hide just removes the submission from your page/new, it doesn't remove it from HN.. delete does that.

Good to know, but then again, I don't see such an option for my submission. Guess I'll just have to live with it.

Both the web interface and connections are down now. Was just fiddling with my private DNS serving both my local network and tailnet, when I lost access to the device listing around 20 minutes ago. Now I also cannot connect through tailnet IPs anymore. EDIT: took me a good minute to realise this too, as I thought I'd just screwed up something in my Pi's ipv6 configuration for the 3rd time in an hour.

P.S. you beat me to posting by 1 minute! Happy to see there was an option to hide my submission, never needed that before.

tapppi commented on Intention to fine Marriott more than £99M under GDPR for data breach   ico.org.uk/about-the-ico/... · Posted by u/snowwolf

There is no definite scale for the fines though, i'm pretty sure negotiating with the hackers will be cheaper 100% of the time. This is interesting from a free market perspective: The undefined cost of the fines would lead to the discovery of the true price of data leaks by negotiating with thieves.
tapppi · 6 years ago
What negotiating though? If your huge customer, orders and/or payments database is exploited and dumped and then used for identity/CC fraud, there is no negotiating with hackers. You will be found out eventually due to the proliferation of sold information and data dumps in the black market, which are then analysed by researchers. Then you will be fined possibly twice instead of once or not at all, since you also failed to report the breach.

I fail to think of relevant common situations where negotiating with the hackers would be an option in breaches relating to GDPR.

The nonprofit board retains full control, and can only take actions that will further our mission.

As described in our Charter (https://openai.com/charter/): that mission is to ensure that AGI benefits all of humanity.

tapppi · 7 years ago
So that is a no then? If the board decides that for AGI to benefit humanity they need more investors, they can just as well remove the cap for a future investor or raise it to 200x.

Will visitors be permitted to stay longer than 90 days per 180 days?
tapppi · 7 years ago
No, since the traditional visa waivers are only for stays of up to 90 days originally as well. So you'll still need a visa for longer stays, most likely either a work or student visa.

https://www.schengenvisainfo.com/etias/

> You can enter the Schengen member states for as many times as you want, for as long as your ETIAS is valid, and you have not stayed more than 90 days in a 180 days period.

As an EU citizen who wants for “EU countries should be treated equally”, you might want to start at home — Schengen doesn’t include (some of) the countries you listed and citizens of (some of) those countries don’t have the same work rights across the EU itself already.

It feels like major hypocrisy to ask the US to treat nationals from those countries equally when the EU itself does not.

tapppi · 7 years ago
What are you even going on about? The Schengen is a separate system from the EU, which abolishes border control (passport control). That also necessitates common Visa Policy. The freedom of movement in the EU is the principal right to move between countries.

The EU countries not part of Schengen Area still enjoy the same rights to freedom of movement, but there might be passport control. And this doesn't really matter anyway, since those countries are on the way to join Schengen Area within the next few years..
