I accidentally ended up at a job in the ad-serving business for two years and this is so accurate. (Who knew "analytics" really meant "ad conversions"?) If there are entire product lines dedicated to blocking the thing you do, it's very demoralizing.

It's demoralizing because people block you?! That's why you found it demoralizing?! Not for commodifying people's attention?

Getting diagnosed and medicated should absolutely be the first port of call and one should do it without delay. However I should add that they never made much concrete difference to my "clinical outcomes". Now I'm sure I was holding them wrong (or holding the wrong model of iPhone), and I should get around to getting prescribed again, but if your main problem is anxious procrastination I honestly think you should temper your expectations about what drugs (or certainly methylphenidate or amphetamine) will do for you.

Do you mean this because the stimulants can also cause anxiety?

There is definitely something to be said for simple file formats augmented with tooling like LLMs and such. I am one of the people who also ended up writing my own todo list app. It really started as a journaling system, but it was super simple to add TODOs. I basically created my own clone of Logseq if anyone is familiar with that. I've basically got what the author has got, but I've automated the part where a fresh page is created each day, and a feature to quickly move undone TODOs to any day.

It's always amusing how people easily carry $1M cash in the movies.

Those aren't stacks of one dollar bills though.

Who cares? We don't live "before salt". Human use of salt _predates writing_ by about 3000 years.

You wouldn't choose to do manual typesetting (or copying books by hand!!!) today either versus alternatives.

If you're _just_ looking to add umami flavor to a dish today, you'd be crazy to pick foraging for wild mushrooms over Aji no Moto.

Well you were replying to a comment about why we foraged for them before salt broski. Doesn't really make sense to bring up the price of something that wasn't isolated then.

MSG is like $0.30/kg.
steezeburger · 3 months ago
I don't think they had MSG before salt

Is that a nickname? :D

Yes the magic command is copy twice within 5 seconds. It can be cmd + C via keyboard or context menu copy, anything updates your clipboard twice with identical content will be triggering it. You can always disable it conflicts with other workflows or apps.

This is really cool. I self host a bookmark manager that has extensions and bookmarklets for mobile, but I really love your idea of cmd + c twice. How does it work on iOS? Or is the app just for viewing the bookmarks?

I use ClipMenu to save clipboard history and will often copy a bunch of things one right after the other, and can use other shortcuts to easily select whole lines or expressions in my editor, so time between copy could be as little as 750ms I'd bet. Is the timeout configurable?

Just thought I'd share a little utility I wrote that I have found a lot of uses for. I have been using this the most with Claude Code because Claude Code takes the image file path to use the picture.

I have also found success setting `SNAPSHOT_DIR` to a directory in your repo and you can then use this along with ai tools in your editor!

But it doesn't even have to be used with ai. It's just a useful tool for taking a picture and having the file path immediately accessible.

Some of the most useful use cases:

- take image of whiteboard diagram and ask Claude Code to generate a chart in something like mermaid

- making todo lists from handwritten notes

- generating juice recipes from a picture of all the fruit on my counter

- take picture of notes to digitize

- language translation

- plant and insect lookup

- getting estimated macros from a picture of food

Would be useful to make this more cross platform. It only supports MacOS for now! And it's not extremely portable. Requires some deps to be installed. It's all in the README though.
