Crypto is NOT a casino.

In a casino the house always wins.

In crypto, every single player that's sat down for 5 years is a winner.

I suppose in the analogy, the house would be the creators of "shitcoins", or the people that aren't left holding bags of worthless crypto coins.

I'm the core developer at VictoriaMetrics - you can find this information by clicking my account name here.

Now it's your turn to disclose your employer name.

I'm a freelancer. And I do use VictoriaMetrics + Grafana on projects for clients, have done so for years now. It what put bread on the table. I like your product, it's standard etiquette in the community to disclose these affiliations, I recognize your name :)

There are products, which fight against the software bloat with bells and whistles, and against breaking backwards compatibility with every new release. They put user experience and stability as the top priority - https://docs.victoriametrics.com/victoriametrics/goals/

My experience, real work is what a junior dev does, without an exception. Senior developer creates over-engineered version of what junior dev made.

Senior devs gibber about database systems, sql, nosql, clustering, etc. The real work storing the input in text file, querying with a simple loop.

Plus there is an additional huge misconception in industry, if something is realtime, it is a senior dev thing. It is something like a plague.

Has "genode" any meaning in English, or is it just an artistic blend of "generic" and "node" or similar?

I'm asking because my brain read "Genocide OS" at the first pass, which seems a bit unfortunate.

slekker commented on Man jailed for parole violations after refusing to decrypt his Tor node   reddit.com/r/TOR/comments... · Posted by u/heavyset_go

For whatever it's worth, the Reddit story here says that the federal courts used "fraudulent warrants to jail my husband again". Maybe! The other side of that story, via PACER, is a detailed parole violation warrant (you can hear the marshal refer to it in the video); the violations in that warrant:

1. Admitting to using cannabis during supervised release

2. Failing to make scheduled restitution payments and to cooperate with the financial investigation that sets restitution payment amounts.

3. Falling out of contact with his probation officer, who attempted home visits to find him.

4. Opening several new lines of credit.

5. Using an unauthorized iPhone (all his Internet devices apparently have keyloggers as a condition of his release).

These read like kind of standard parole terms? I don't know what the hell happened to get him into this situation in the first place, though.

I was somewhat surprised to find that Zed still doesn't have a way to add your own local autocomplete AI using something like Ollama. Something like Qwen 2.5 coder at a tiny 1.5b parameters will work just fine for the stuff that I want. It runs fast and works when I'm between internet connections too.

I'd also like to see a company like Zed allow me to buy a license of their autocomplete AI model to run locally rather than renting and running it on their servers.

I'd also pay for something in the 10-15b parameter range that used more limited training data focused almost entirely on programming documentation and books along with professional business writing. Something with the coding knowledge of Qwen Coder combined with the professionalism and predictability of IBM Granite 3. I'd pay quite a lot for such an agent (especially if it got updates every couple of months that worked in new documentation, bugfixes, github threads, etc to keep the answers up-to-date).

Ditto, that was one of the dealbreakers for me using Zed, the Copilot integration is miles behind Cursor's

On-topic: Seems like a good feature.

Off-topic: I've been reading some of the comments and I notice a bunch of HN-members are unhappy about their product. My experience: things never broke for me, never needed to contact support, ads are blocked, etc (But I also use uBlock, etc)

(P.s. - My only complaint is that -- like so many other SaaS offerings -- administrating payments is not easy enough. - No option to pay by year - So every month you have to go the website, login, go the admin, click download invoice - Instead of: click download PDF from monthly invoice email)

What? I pay by year
