Is it possible to give your parents access to to your browser in a safe way?

That’s easy. Giving my parents a safe browser to utilize without me is the challenge.

Okay, but I don't want any "software engineers" calling themselves engineer unless they have a 4 year degree and liability insurance.

As someone from the AEC industry (Architecture, Engineering and Construction) I've always maintained that there exists a scope of software engineering that meets the same criteria for the protection of life and property that 'Professional Engineers' are held to.

If writing software which carries the potential to harm the public required both a baseline assurance of competency (documented testing, experience, or education), as well as provisional restitution (insurance, licensing bond, or civil liability) administered by a neutral third party, than many less practitioners would take on the personal liability of representing themselves as such.

It's always amusing to go around the table on a call when it is attended by both the 'Digital Signage Sales Engineer' and the 'Structural Engineer of Record'. Although in reality, I doubt either of them actually care..

So I can show up at my neighbours door as an electrician and fix stuff by asking ChatGPT? As long as it works and nobody notices?

"as long as it works and no one notices" then yes, yes you can!

Who is Paul, and why is his journey interesting?

I eventually figured it out I think.. A brief summary about Paul and his journey at the top would greatly improve the first impression of people adjacent to and outside of the target audience.

Nice work!

what are some hardware people would recommend (specifically looking for power efficiency)?
seemaze · 5 days ago
I've had luck replacing Raspberry Pi's with Dell Wyse 5070's. They're not screamers, but they are relatively recent fanless hardware with low idle power draw and plenty of oomph to push every service I self host.

Great to see Thunderbird sponsoring the previous fork of Firefox Send[0]. I employed that for a short time and thoroughly enjoyed it!

>"In the end, we intend to relieve designers from worrying about fabrication so that they can focus on aesthetics and function"

I will argue that the foremost problem in the discipline of design is that many don't 'worry about fabrication' enough.

I just attend my local independent cinema. Sometimes I’m blown away. Sometimes the film sucks, but there are only 3-4 options at any given time. Simplifies the decision, and at the very least, they serve beer.

It's quite rare that art grabs me, but this did. I love the idea of bending photographic truth in real-time, especially with an optical device.

I find the Fulgurator a bit subversive and also unsettling, how much in a photo is manipulated at point-of-capture?

I think another way this gets me thinking is that we generally assume that sensors are 'neutral' witnesses, but that's more of a comforting illusion rather than fact. The fulgurator shows manipulation at a physical level, but it's not hard to imagine similar interventions happening at firmware or even silicon.

I had the same feeling other, but not all, works from this artist. I ended up browsing through the full portfolio. Definitely an interesting find!
