Oh, mostly the forest-y and nature-y states - Arkansas, Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, Idaho, Tennessee, Kentucky, Arizona, Washington, Oregon, California...I would've liked to see more of Montana and Michigan, but it gets cold up there in the winters.

Mostly I drove through Texas to avoid Oklahoma (one of my least favorite states), but the Guadalupe Mountains were very nice.

I'm not sure I'd call it 'clean' though; the air seemed awfully smoggy and I saw almost as many flaring wells as I did in North Dakota. But there were lots of open spaces and the people were friendly.

Washington, Arkansas, New Mexico, and Utah get my vote for the best places to do a parks/forests vacation, depending on your interests.

The air was “smoggy” driving through Texas? Uh huh... I’m going to go ahead and put that on the same level as your claim about Texas being lax on litter penalties.

By the way, Texas has more acres of forest land than every state you mentioned as being nature-y and forest-y and having more incentive to care about the environment. The only state with more forest than Texas is Alaska.

Like someone else said, Texas is too big to make generalizations.

Safety razor was invented around WWII [0] and that is probably linked to the requirements of wearing a gas mask. Probably has something to do with the change in fashion.

Fun fact; often there is a general ban on beards in underground coal mines because the miners need to be able to wear gas masks.

It's the same way in chemical plants that handle H2S or other dangerous chemicals. I've always had a beard, but I'd have to shave it when installing or servicing our equipment in those plants.

One of the implications of this report is absurd. Why does the Surgeon General feel the need to clarify that one particular aspect of cannabis is deleterious, when their stance is that the substance is Schedule 1?
seandhi · 6 years ago
The Drug Enforcement Agency and Food and Drug Administration set the drug schedules, and the Surgeon General is under the United States Public Health Service Commissioned Corps.

they don't want to compete with lower-cost-lower-quality firms

Such as?

Lyft and traditional taxi service are a couple that come to mind... not that Lyft is necessarily lower quality.

Escobar conservatively killed thousands of people. I wouldn't worry too much about insulting him.
seandhi · 6 years ago
It’s insulting to Colombians.

Not only - AFAIR the Colombian Steve Jobs had problems with humidity too - 2.1 billion 80s' USD lost to flooding and rotting is what I would call real liquidity :D And also rats I think.
seandhi · 6 years ago
It’s extremely insulting to refer to Escobar as the Colombian Steve Jobs, if that is the connection you are making.

What motivations could those be, making as many people as possible addicted and sick?

The former are usually called drug dealers and the latter psychopaths.

seandhi · 6 years ago
Or maybe they genuinely believe that their products are safer than cigarettes and believe that they are helping people by giving them an alternative.

I don’t see that quote in the article at all, and it doesn’t appear that the author claims any kind of trickery or sneakiness to trick his team into using Racket. It seems like the team built the tool together.

When lightning struck my house, insurance company just flat out refused to help, one employee of their just flat out told us on the phone that unless we could prove lightning hit our property specifically, they wouldn't even bother sending someone over to check our claims, because or the claim was false, or the lightning hit the power lines, and in this case we should bother the power company...

(by the way, we know the lightning hit our property, the damage got bigger and bigger in specific direction, and following it the place with highest amount of damage was the tall metallic post where the motor for the gate was attached...)

seandhi · 6 years ago
Wow. I had the same thing happen in back in '08, but our insurance company pulled record of lightning strikes in the area to determine if lightning could actually have been the cause. Luckily, they determined that it was the likely cause - all in all, I had almost $20,000 in damages.
