I love Zed and I'm glad you now have native support for Claude. I previously ran it using the instructions in this post: https://benswift.me/blog/2025/07/23/running-claude-code-with...

One thing that still suffers is AI autocomplete. While I tried Zed's own solution and supermaven (now part of Cursor), I still find Cursor's AI autocomplete and predictions much more accurate (even pulling up a file via search is more accurate in Cursor).

I am glad to hear that Zed got a round of funding. https://zed.dev/blog/sequoia-backs-zed This will go a long way to creating real competition to Cursor in the form of a quality IDE not built on VSCode

I'll third this. AI autocomplete is THE most efficient and helpful feature of Cursor, not the agents.

This kind of rant, culminating in a hackneyed "created in a week" insult, usually comes from backend developers who jumped into frontend work thinking it was a silly little thing that could be mastered in under an hour, discovered that it was a whole separate field, and still failed to adjust their priors.

This time it comes from a "former Delphi product manager" turned clickbait writer. I just hope that my visit with adblock enabled didn't generate any form of income for him or his website.

Finally, an accurate take on FE! Well said!

> Spend your remaining days at home if possible.

This sounds appealing in the abstract but one thing to consider is the impact on other family members. My parents had a neighbor who chose to remain at home. However that meant his wife also had to stay at home to look after him (yes there were nurses who came in a couple of times a day, but a lot of the burden was still on the wife.) This meant her own life basically shut down. She never went out, and spent at least a year fully housebound for his care.

Once he died, she was able to go out, reconnect with friends, kickstart her life again. Couldn't help feeling the husband's choice here was a selfish one.

No place is rather be than with my spouse in a time like that!

Modern Java is great! Java "patterns" are overwhelming.
