A cheap method would be to leave the brush head soak overnight in a saline solution. Use tap water or COLD water from boiled kettle plus small amount salt.

One might imagine that converting to Islam is required to gain citizenship in Saudi Arabia, so it’s certainly good timing here.

Travis seems very devout as evinced by his reference to "Boob-er": https://mashable.com/article/uber-disgusting-examples

While reading the article, the now-less-common business of vacuum and TV repair came to mind. I imagine it's easier than ever to repair vacuums, with improved tools and free internet repositories of schematics. But I only know of one store still doing this within 5 miles of my house. I haven't asked former vacuum repairmen, but my guess as to the reasons:

1) Labor costs go up with inflation

2) Rent goes up

3) New vacuum prices go down

At some point in the past, the downward line of vacuum price crossed over the upward line of repair cost. That's when this profession cratered.

Cars may have a while until that price point hits. But the quoted mechanic's suggestion that engineers optimize for simpler repairs instead of simpler production may be something similar. If simpler production makes the price of a new car $X cheaper, but increases the labor cost of repairs over the car's lifetime by $Y, there could be a time when X > Y.

That is because there is not a cost for the disposal of the broken vacuum. Imagine if we paid by the weight of our trash. Some of the right to repair laws are trying to change that by requiring replacement parts be available to purchase. https://www.repair.org/know-your-rights

The data for long term maintenance can be found but for example the government could mandate it be published for car models to give consumers more insight and be a lever to incentivize designing cars to be more easily maintainable (e.g. not have to remove a truck's cab to replace an oil filter gasket!) https://www.consumerreports.org/cars/car-maintenance/the-cos...

is this real? by first look USA only spent like 4% of GDP on space stuff at the peak of space race. 40% is insane.

40% of *growth*, not 40% of total GDP.
runamok commented on Remembering Steve Jobs   macrumors.com/2025/10/05/... · Posted by u/ksec

I know this wont go over well but I think it's important to remember: Steve Jobs did not treat his pancreatic cancer when he was first diagnosed and it was treatable, he instead sought holistic/alternative medicine treatments[1]. He leveraged his vast wealth to get a replacement liver [2] that at the time was known to only extend his life. That liver could have gone to someone that did not have such a negative prognosis and possibly saved their life for a lot longer than it did Steve. He used a chunk of his remaining time to work on his last yacht.

He was a great product person but I don't think that excuses all of the horrible things he did as a human.

Here is a good podcast on his terribleness: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=aEv08Zzunfc Some high points: Incredibly abusive to his employees, stole from Woz, screwed over his employees when Apple went public and Woz covered, refused to admit his daughter Lisa was his for many years. The man had great taste but the way he is worshipped in Silicon Valley is off-putting. Woz is a much better person to wish to emulate in my opinion.

According to the article the current situation already is a bit of a clusterfuck:

The Photon images provide many other benefits not previously available to users of Debian images, including:

  - Drastically reduced CVE count (e.g., 100+ CVEs to in some cases 0)

runamok · 4 months ago
Sure. My company is demoing Chainguard which is quite pricy for hardened images. Bitnami premium reportedly goes for $50k to $72k per year: https://devoriales.com/post/402/from-free-to-fee-how-broadco...

Is anyone working on mirroring the images and keeping them updated?
runamok · 4 months ago
In brief you need to switch the registry from (iirc) docker.io/bitnami to docker.io/bitnamilegacy. Note that as of iirc tomorrow those images will no longer be updated. So the moment there is a high or critical cve you better have a plan to use a new image and likely helm chart or send broadcom cash. The old registry will continue to have a "latest" tag but this should not be used for production.

Does said network egress cost $50k per user?
