The tradeoffs you cite aren’t about the CAP theorem. It’s more about RUM conjecture: http://daslab.seas.harvard.edu/rum-conjecture/

It took 20 years to acknowledge that pushing eventual consistency to application layer is not worth it for most applications.

Seems the same is playing out out in Postgres with this extension, maybe will take it another 20 years

The idea of active-active is too seductive compared to how hard learning distributed systems is.

Rather poor writing for the ACM. It’s just a pile of anecdotes and overreaching conclusions. The downtrend in software dev hiring predates the AI boom.

Uber is worth a case study in absolutely horrendous customer service and borderline theft. I haven't used them since they stole $150 from me for an UberEats order I was 10 minutes late to pickup in a one hour window, stating that the pickup windows are firm even for non-perishable goods and failure to show up during the window is a forfeit without refund. They even fought my credit card dispute on the matter. Vile company.

I am long on this project and excited about it.

I am wondering, why it took so long for something like this to happen for Postgres, where as Vitess existed for MySQL more than a decade. I am not an expert, but I hear Citus is not really a fair comparison with Vitess.

pgdog represents maybe just the VTGate portion of Vitess. There's a whole lot more to Vitess or any replication-on-top of a database type service than just the query router.

This is quite an anti-worker comment.

"They still have cereal and fast food and they're not getting shot so they're fine." LOL.

You're both painting polarized views. I'm from the rust belt where many of these disenfranchised can be found. Manufacturing isn't coming back. Tariffs are only going to increase the gap between the haves and the have-nots.

Welcome to the (most recent) era of deregulation. Get ready for all Fortune 500s to deny, deny, deny, and bribe.
