I'm curious why you need a phone for banking at all, at home as you say. Wouldn't a laptop suffice? Granted, not all banks have a web app these days
reorder9695 · 7 hours ago
Not for me at least, 3DS requires approval in an app on my phone. I'd love if the banks just used TOTP instead but no, I have to use their app, some of which don't work with an unlocked bootloader, so I have to have stock android

And obsidian is not open source either. If you rely on any of the functionality besides just raw text editing, you may lose it one day.
reorder9695 · 6 days ago
I think the point they were making was obsidian by default does not upload to anyone's server, yes they sell obsidian sync but they also endorse using synthing instead.

My notes, which can include things like my location, appointments, plans, things I don't want a random company viewing never leave my device, which is the only way you can be sure they are not being viewed without an oss app.

Seriously people selling a product at a fair price and that being that is a centuries old thing, why does everything need to be a subscription now just because it's possible?

QR codes feel like such a step backwards compared to NFC. The UX with current mobile OSes is not good. And if you require an app, or even worse an active data connection, well, I much prefer a quick double-click of my phone’s side button and then putting it near the payment terminal. And I’m really skeptical about security. NFC is vulnerable to relay attacks and QR codes can be secured by using one-time codes or rolling time-based codes, but showing a bright high contrast “scan this to take my money” image in public feels very wrong.
reorder9695 · 12 days ago
I also actually _like_ having a physical card that I can use with NFC so that I'm not fecked if my phone dies/breaks or anything. Physical cards to me are a feature.

You'll be much happier if you just pretend smartphones don't exist and don't own one.

Issue there is with e.g. 3DS for banking, tesco clubcard (read: extortion), TOTP

>Everyone hates doing farm work and rightfully so.

Yes, everyone hates sitting in the million dollar tractor's cab, sitting on the cushioned seat and enjoying the air conditioning while looking at the dozen screens that remind one of piloting the space shuttle.

I'm glad that California's legislators are taking a look at that, and making sure no one ever has to do it again. It's a horrible job, and the sooner it has been eliminated the sooner we can all celebrate.

reorder9695 · 13 days ago
Farming is one of the hardest jobs out there. You need to effectively run your own business on fine margins often relying on government subsidies which can change over time, with a lot of risk due to crop failures/livestock disease (culling can be necessary for chickens due to bird flu etc). It requires hard manual labour running the farm with physical risk to you if you work with livestock. Cows don't care if you get sick, they still need cared for no matter what, there isn't much space for holidays or illness. This isn't to mention the few times of the year the tractors are used as you describe, but most tractors aren't this fancy, and how would you like to spend all day every day for a time working the land with the tractor from sunrise to sunset?

Qubic never actually hit 51% btw. Don't fall for it.

However they do have a large enough hashrate to perform multi-block re-orgs with their selfish mining strategy.

They disabled API hashrate reporting so that they could lie about it.

Keep mining and ignore the noise.

I am not that well versed in crypto. I understand the concept of a blockchain and what an n block reorg is, but what is the downside of a reorg? Like who can profit financially and why?

The molotov cocktail example is so stupid, because how to make it is essentially entailed in knowing what it is. At least they could do making meth, or better still- something not readily found on the internet that gives a non-expert new capabilities. If there was a Claude code for crime, that wouldn't be in society's interest. As it is, these trivial examples are just testing the strength of built in refusals, and should be represented as such, instead of anything related to safety.
reorder9695 · 17 days ago
With the other name, petrol bomb, you barely even need prior knowledge of what it is. This is kinda like saying kids games which have molotovs in them are completely unsuitable for anything.
