I happened to have been assigned Moby Dick in 9th grade English class. Foolishly put off reading it until the night before the book report was due. Got about 1/3 of the way through and went through life thinking it was boring. Fast forward decades, I'm now reading it for real. It hilarious, it's pause encouraging, I love it! (And I'm still only 1/3 through.)

I read it a few years ago and was severely disappointed. All these comments about Moby Dick makes me reconsider giving it a second go.

I do not know whether the author reads this, but I need to applaud the writing. Either the author is extremely talented and wrote this in one quick sitting or else there has been a lot of revisions to get it this short and concise. I aspire to be able to write like this - so really good job author!

I did not know about this. But suddenly Eminems Without me text makes sense all these years after :)

Now let's go, just give me the signal

I'll be there with a whole list full of new insults

I've been dope, suspenseful with a pencil

Ever since Prince turned himself into a symbol

But exercise is also supposed to help you age better, and doesn't exercising mean you have to consume more calories?
q-base · 2 years ago
Depends on your goal. You could also keep your diet consistent and do more exercise to produce a deficit. If your goal is longevity, then this may be a viable option. If your goal is to be faster, stronger or bigger, then this is probably not the right approach.

But reading article the conclusion seems to be that we simply do not know enough about how this all works. Giving absolute ranges of calories also seems like the wrong approach. There are differences in sex, in height in activity levels etc. etc. etc.

Would someone on a 2000 calorie diet who was moderately active fare better than someone on a 2500 calorie diet who was more active? I do not think we have the answer to that.

This mentality is fascinating to me. In a sense, nobody owns an Apple device. It's more like renting: the landlord keeps a bunch of doors locked and has strict rules, but the place comes pre-furnished and includes millennial-grade amenities.

I can see the appeal if you don't particularly care about owning a device, but it blows my mind that people become so dedicated to this way of living.

I love that your analogy hit me so hard that I came to question my iPhone SE. I think the main issue for me is that I have not found a better alternative elsewhere. There are some interesting locked down and privacy focused variants of Android, but I am not sure I could use them with the banking and personal ID apps that are almost "required" unless I have to jump through additional hoops daily.

But thought provoking analogy - and thanks for that!
