Don't want to talk in bad taste by going to this so early, but... this extremely unfortunate event is going to be a very telling test for the media and society at large.

A Democratic state representative in Minnesota was brutally murdered and another attacked by the same man only a couple of months ago, back in June. How many can name them? How long did their deaths stay in the headlines? How much coverage were they given, and how much coverage will Kirk be given?

My cynical side suspects we are about to hear a lot about "violence from the left" in a way we did not about the right back in June.

"you know, I could be nice and call him [Governor Walz], but why waste time?"

I use and recommend Evermusic for offline listening on iOS. It can fetch music from your cloud storage accounts too.

Heck yeah! I use an RSS reader to consume news every day on both my phone and laptop. It's blissfully free of extras and distraction.

* Go ballroom dancing. * Go square dancing. * Go to the library and read their historical non-fiction primary sources (letters and journals). * Go to church (I'm serious, even if you are an atheist). * Go roller skating at a rink. * Go ice skating. * Go paint balling. * Go to a water park. * Go to your HOA/City/County board/commissioners meetings. * Go to your state legislature meetings. * Go to a volunteer firefighters informational meeting. * Go to a plant/flower (orchid/African violate) growers club. * Go to a sewing club. * Go to a fishing class or just fish. * Go to a hunting/gun class or just hunt/shoot.

I bought a six-pack of sand timers. They are silent, require no apps, have no screens, and are beautiful. They will probably outlive solutions such as these.

I so hate CSV.

I am on the receiving end: I have to parse CSV generated by various (very expensive, very complicated) eCAD software packages. And it's often garbage. Those expensive software packages trip on things like escaping quotes. There is no way to recover a CSV line that has an unescaped double quote.

I can't point to a strict spec and say "you are doing this wrong", because there is no strict spec.

Then there are the TSV and semicolon-Separated V variants.

Did I mention that field quoting was optional?

And then there are banks, which take this to another level. My bank (mBank), which is known for levels of programmer incompetence never seen before (just try the mobile app) generates CSVs that are supposed to "look" like paper documents. So, the first 10 or so rows will be a "letterhead", with addresses and stuff in various random columns. Then there will be your data, but they will format currency values as prettified strings, for example "34 593,12 USD", instead of producing one column with a number and another with currency.

I also expect more informed people are wary of cult of personality type contrarians, like trump or musk, who have weaponized the social media contrarian reaction engine to an extreme
