You sparked an idea that I started working on today. It's more like `make` than `terraform` but will share principals from both.

---

The idea is that convo files will serve as decencies of target outputs and those outputs could be anything from React components to generated images or videos.

---

This should make for a declarative way of defining generated application and content in a way that is repeatable and easy to modify.

---

I'll implement the same caching strategy that `make` uses to minimize the number of tokens consumed as changes to convo files are made.

---

Anybody have any thoughts or suggestions?

I say show don’t tell. Easier to see it implemented even if just a prototype.

What about the delivery, stage presence, etc? A joke is more than its words.

Here is one of my (written by I) favorites silly jokes to tell:

I just bought a do it yourself boat kit from Amazon.

wait to build tension

Just need to add water.

Like terraform for prompts.

Put that on the landing page.

I remember the psychic infomercial craze of the early to mid-90's. Think Dionne Warwick's Psychic Friend's Network or the later Miss Cleo "Call Me Now" that aired on informercial spots everywhere in the 90's.

Your comment gave me a nightmare of that returning, but in AI form somehow.

They inspired my comment. I think it’s already happening, though. Even the coding agents operate a bit like psychics.

Curious how that would work. There’s definitely known and understood laws around malpractice, fraud, and incompetence. Are there laws that would allow a less-than-gifted individual, such as the one in the article, to sue for misinformation?

These AIs are taking away the jobs of psychics and other snake oil peddlers. How will the median person get their confirmation bias serviced when the AI becomes too expensive?

One thing I want to point out about software is that its perpetually commoditized. Any piece of valuable software will get a free version after some amount of time.

It happened to compilers, operating systems, and renderer. It's gradually happening to game engines.

That's why the largest software companies are really just network effect monopolies. You only use it because other people use it or it relies on some sort of proprietary format.

Many companies like Adobe, Microsoft and Google could sustain a dramatically lower headcount if they started from scratch and never went outside the confines of their network monopoly markets.

From that perspective a one person unicorn is very feasible if we think about it as building a network effect monopoly.

In fact a close example already exists -- Minecraft was very close to being a single person unicorn.

If we have a one person unicorn, I'd imagine it'd be something more like Minecraft than someones newsletter or Google!

Minecraft? Not at all. Please stop rewriting history. Minecraft definitely had a small dev team but it wasn’t a single persons effort and wasn’t close to being one. You don’t create a world changing video game by yourself.

So, why not then use AI to create all these billion dollar companies for themselves? Why sell access to the model?

Will there be a shovel that uncovers a billion dollar gold nugget? Why sell the shovel then?

Would be nice if your demo was front and center with an option to create your own after it plays. Also, maybe add a way to email myself a reminder to send a card. Might be a good option to those that would send one for birthdays but can’t do one now. Capturing their email as a reminder is a great way to sell this. Actually, this would be a great product to sell through email

All this AI coding stuff is scaring the shit out of me. a few months ago my team were hiring for a new engineer. of the 9 candidates we ran technical interviews with, only two could work without the ai. The rest literally just vibe coded their way though the app. as soon as it was taken away, they couldn't even write a basic sql query in ecto (we're a phoenix app). when questioned about tradeoffs inherent in the ai generated implementation, all but one was completely in the dark.
pryelluw · 14 days ago
This was my experience prior to any of the llm tools. It’s hard to find people with all around knowledge. Plus someone good in one context is awful in another. Your hiring process should find people who are a good fit and not look for people with just certain technical skills. The basics of SQL can be learned quickly. Fit cannot be learned.
