Thanks. This is from

Browsing through this I found:

What is up with poisoning in the early 40s?

priteau · 4 months ago
The page for this graph links to the source of the data, which is at: https://injuryfacts.nsc.org/all-injuries/deaths-by-demograph...

As I suspected, poisoning most likely includes drug overdose. They have this comment about the 2023 data:

> #1: Poisoning: 100,304 deaths

> Largely due to the opioid epidemic affecting millions of people in the United States

You can see more recent data than 2004 in their interactive charts. It is interesting to see that deaths from road accidents has much reduced for teenagers and young adults, compared to the rest of the population.

What a nice surprise to see this on the HN front page! I was involved with DSLinux for several years. I maintained nightly-ish builds that I hosted on my website. I don't think I ever contributed any code, as my C and system programming skills were still rudimentary at the time, but I did a fair amount of testing and helping people in the community.

I sold my Nintendo DS since then, but I still have somewhere the Supercard that I would use to store and boot Linux, which looks like this: https://wiki.gbatemp.net/wiki/File:SuperCard_CF_V2.jpg

Most of credit for the amazing work that made this possible goes to a few individuals, in particular Malcolm Parsons (pepsiman), Stefan Sperling (who later became an OpenBSD developer), and Amadeus: http://dslinux.org/wiki/ContactingDevelopers.html

If the point is to get to the site faster, why is the TLD "idk"? Couldn't it be 1 letter or at least the same three letters?

On a separate note, someone could actually make a website do this without any extension. It would need to use wikipedia dumps and has the advantage it can't be suddenly edited by a malicious actor.

I assume idk means I don’t know. As in, get me to this website for which I don’t know the domain name.

Example in front of me: the MacBook Pro.

At some point when Apple introduced the touchbar someone decided that you don’t need to truly turn it off… and it automatically turns on when you press a key. Meaning that you can’t cleanup the keyboard without draining the battery first. (I tried looking for undocumented configs to turn this off… for years -well more or less since 2017)

Nuclear is just cleaner when it's done right. Look at the top producing plants in the US (https://findenergy.com/power-plants/). All fossil fuels, mostly around 1,000 KGs of CO2/MWh produced. Nuclear is around 15 KGs/MWh. Just for reference, the #1 polluting plant in the US produces more CO2 than all of the passenger vehicles in the US combined.
priteau · 4 years ago
I don't think your last statement is correct. According to the linked page, the James H. Miller Jr. plant produces around 19 million metric tons of CO2 per year, while passenger cars produce around 760 million metric tons per year: https://www.statista.com/statistics/1235091/us-passenger-car...
