The original article mentioned how society has determined it is "not okay for people with already-fine concentration to use it to become superhuman".

The way you talk about this, though. Being impressed about someone's "advanced stack" of drugs to maximize their potential. I get the impression you're using it to become superhuman.

I'm not sure if I am the only one with this reaction, but I feel like your attitude is kinda offensive and disgusting. How much money have you made by abusing drugs in our rat race?

Yeah, I am kinda disgusted myself, but I am right on the cusp, and I am grasping at it. That last sprint. I’ve locked in 99.5%-tile wealth, but the next month to six will determine if I can get into 99.9%-tile, where the true game change is.

And I’m under no illusion, if I don’t bag this deal here for the 99.9%-tile (private aviation, super yacht and models) I’ll forever be stuck at 99.5%-tile (first class commercial, upper middle class lifestyle forever without having to work).

Just a little more... broke my way many times... just need this last bit...

> There are occasional claims that magnesium or some other substance can help reverse Adderall tolerance.

I went to a particularly expensive Silicon Valley psychiatrist who did of course immediately put me on Adderall, but also put me on NAC supplements to "avoid tolerance". It's been okay, they're cheap, never bothered not taking them to experiment. I can confirm feeling better after eating foods with magnesium, mostly because they're good for you.

BTW, if you're on amphetamine+guanfacine you need to avoid all of caffeine, sugar, and alcohol. What a bummer.

I was hard burnt out, all the symptoms, literally thought I’d never work again. I’ve come back now and i’ll tell you what worked for me. YMMV.

Didn’t quit. Started working 20-30hrs per week max. Let everything that couldn’t fit in that truly slide. Cultivated DGAF attitude, concentrated on self-care out of the office (with extra time I had from working low hours).

Took a long, long time at this reduced pace, maybe 6 - 9 months of thinking “ok, this is sustainable” and eventually got recharged...

> There are legitimate physical[1] and psychological[2] differences between the sexes which lead to differences in career preferences

What physical and psychological differences cause more men than women to go into tech? Do you really think that it's something like that rather than pervasive social problems in the industry that make it hostile to women as described in the article and many others? This isn't a hypothetical question I'd love to hear your response :)

Women are perfectly innately physically and psychologically capable of doing the work in tech I and my male coworkers do. The reason for lack of parity is elsewhere and is definitely not benign.

It’s called “choice”

And as much as you may personally love the tech industry, it’s perfectly reasonable that some women don’t.

Arguably it’s a smarter choice to go into dentistry than tech.

Question for you if you don't mind...

I've been out of undergrad and working in industry for close to a decade as a Software Engineer and/or Embedded Systems Engineer. I feel I'm doing pretty well in my career, but I've been looking at the online masters in CS as a way of showing that I'm dedicated to continuing learning, and to maybe open up some new doors for myself down the road.

From your perspective as a hiring manager, would this be worth the time and effort? It's not like I wouldn't be interested and learning new stuff anyways, but if I'm going to go invest the time and money to do the degree vs. learning on my own, it would be nice to know if it was worth anything.

(No sweat if you don't feel like answering, or want to take this private. Thanks!)

For getting a new job, only do an online masters if you want to switch specialties (i.e. move from embedded to security or web programming, etc)

If staying in embedded will just focus on work experience.

$90-$150 per hour is the going rate.

... and no I wouldn't pay $5 per workout on your app. :)

I also graduated with a MSCS from GT. While I agree that a Masters degree is not a good signal for a job candidate, having Georgia Tech as your last institution of study instead of your potentially "lower" undergraduate program is.

The question remains is if an online degree has the same credibility. Looking back at my time at GT, I cannot see how operating solo, without the constant feedback from your peers and faculty, is as good. There is more than just what is in the study material. The other question is if the entrance requirements are still as stringent.

Silicon Valley hiring manager here.

From my perspective, unfortunately, Georgia Tech has really diluted the value of their masters in cs degree. They have become a sort of immigration visa-mill with very many India undergrad -> Georgia Tech Masters of very questionable skill level.

Just my experience.

"Mobile advertising revenue represented approximately 84% of advertising revenue for the third quarter of 2016, up from approximately 78% of advertising revenue in the third quarter of 2015."

Is advertising dead on the desktop?

is this all free-to-play mobile app installs?

if so, worrisome.
